Had the privilege of crossing from Le Havre to NYC with my family on the SS United States. Was only 5 y/o at the time, but have vivid memories of a sleek, fast, beautiful ship.

Live oak is a species of oak trees able to withstand drought. It has an incredibly tight grain making it very dense.. They grow all over the west. All the trees in the east are gone now.

No, they are not. Where did you hear that?

I was in Boston four years ago and I wanted badly to see the Constitution along with other historic sites, but it was October and Obama had shut down the government over the budget so everything was closed. Now I’ll be back in Boston for a day again and want badly to see the Constitution and other historic sites, but it will be in October again and there’s a chance that Congress will shut down the government over the budget again closing everything down again. I can’t win.

Well the way I understand it Virginia used to have a lot of live oaks in the 18th and 19th century. Now I see none. Those trees like coastal regions so I guess there are some in tide water. In central VA there are no live oaks.

It’s interesting that the State Department shut down our land war against them moslems after a decisive route at Derne! The Battle of Derne was the first land battle of the United States on foreign soil after the American Revolutionary War. It was the decisive action of the First Barbary War. Eaton was furious over what he called a ‘sell-out’ between Consul Lear and the bey.In other words, the State Department has always worked against American interests.

I suspect you are both right. Live oak is very twisty and is used for curved fittings and stuff. The long straight beams aren’t live oak. There is still plenty of Live Oak along the gulf coast.
