Court hands each side a partial victory in dispute over scope of travel ban

On the same day that it scheduled oral argument in the dispute over President Donald Trump’s March 6 executive order, the Supreme Court turned down a request by the federal government to clarify exactly what it meant when it said that individuals with a close family relationship could continue to apply for visas to enter the United States even while the freeze on new visas for travelers from six predominantly Muslim countries is in place.
Today’s order left in place a ruling by a federal district judge in Hawaii that had defined the relationships more expansively than the government had wanted – to include, among others, grandparents and grandchildren. But the justices also put a portion of that lower-court ruling relating to refugees on hold while an intermediate federal appeals court reviews it.
The USSC is making itself the arbiter of immigration policy thereby encroaching on the powers of the presidency. There may come a time when they regret opening this can of worms and subsuming executive authority.

No Hawaii does NOT have a lot of Muslim refugees . It has very few Muslim residents in general . But those that do live here , mostly on Oahu , are somehow associated with the Muslim Association of Hawaii ( MAH - https://www.facebook.com/Muslim-Association-of-Hawaii-179288585523443/ ) and the Imam there who is in league with AG Chin and the Hawaii ACLU lawyers in promoting this . Also signed on to this push is Obama friend and Washington D.C. lawyer/lobbyist Neil Katyal ( another immigrant ) There are an increasing number of obviously muslim tourists visiting though , assumedly not from the 6 target countries . Some are no doubt scouting our airports and infrastructure .
