I don’t understand how people who are clear-eyed about the hopelessness of failed states like NY & CA suddenly think we’ll become a country of 60 Senator Rand Pauls in time before we become the Venezuela of North America. Our presidents have only won the popular vote once since 1988. Fortunately that means nothing as far as winning elections, but it should give you some perspective as to what kind of country we are becoming.

I can’t think of one entitlement program that we successfully shrunk, even a little. We had an opportunity to put a serious dent in Obamacare, but it looks like as of tonight it will remain on the books until the inevitable collapse of the insurance industry and therefore no option but single payer.

You suggested we should pass something and clean it up later. What many of us here say in response...all the supposed reforms will be delayed until the outer years, and then, well...reformed into nothing by a future Congress.

The Rand Pauls are the future. Well-spoken, reasonable yet firm in defense of principle. We need to lift up candidates like that. If we give up then we are resigning ourselves to the end of the Republic as it was founded.

You seem to think that the States will simply go along with single payer? Health care is not a federal issue, as I am pretty sure you understand. Ultimately the federal govt has no authority to implement single payer, nor to force doctors to accept federal reimbursement.

I keep harping on this, but if we don’t want Bernie as president, we need to stop the conversion of our youth into Bernie voters. And that means conservatives and Christians should be making the personal choice to never allow their children to set foot in those places. That is the long term perspective. If we don’t guarantee our children a Godly, liberty focused education we can only blame ourselves for the consequences of Bernie P.S. turning our children into antifa wannabes.

No, I’m saying that once the death spiral bankrupts insurance companies, there will be no other option but single payer. You can’t have a free market system if the market is already destroyed. Health insurance is a commodity that people cannot wait around for companies to rebuild themselves from the Obamacare ruins.

The Cruz Amendment gave insurers a means to bypass Obamacare regulations and create a real market side market. But, the people who were more interested in conservative virtue signaling killed it.

Rand Paul is just a more polished version of his dad. Mark my words: he will never be a crucial vote on any conservative legislation, ever.

I agree about the corruption of our youth. However, the first step in rolling back leftism is to roll back leftism. We could have taken one step in that direction this month. Now, we’ll have to settle for another Obamacare repeal show vote that if it even gets 50 votes it will still be killed by the filibuster.

Actually, Paul was a crucial part of this legislation. He was critical to stopping it. Just like he has been a critical voice on mass surveillance and a critical voice on the ME. Whether you like it or not, he is in the top 3 Senators in terms of conservative leadership.

Paul and Lee stood shoulder to shoulder with Bernie Sanders and all his fellow communists in killing this bill. Tell me more about how conservative they are.

Sanders killed the bill because he is a Dem who will stop at nothing less than single payer. Did Lee and Paul advocate for single payer? I can only guess that your answer will be that a vote for pure free market is a vote for single payer! lol!

It is possible to make common cause with progressives on one or two issues (surveillance would be one). This was not common cause.

Tell me again why conservatives should be supporting a bill created by lobbyists behind closed doors, with no meaningful effort to bring the public to understand the merits of free-market medicine?

How does the idea of bypassing crushing Obamacare mandates to buy the plan you wanted sound? That’s what you would have gotten with the Cruz amendment, but now you get nothing except another full repeal show vote - yippee!!

Paul and Sanders could have been high-fiving last night for all it matters. The result is the same: Bernie gets his socialist law protected and Paul gets...the socialist law protected?

Oh, Paul also gets to wax poetic about his principles. Evidently, his top principle is protecting socialism at all costs unless he can pass legislation that gets him “80% loaf” - maybe. He’s not decided on that either.

He also get to cast himself the purest of conservatives in the 2024 presidential debate, which is crucial principle to him and his insecure supporters who are fine to watch us turn into the Venezuela of the north if they can get the satisfaction of standing on the ruins of the republic and declare “told ya so!”

It is pointless talking to you about this. Suffice it to say, again, that your approach has gotten us to where we are now. It is also apparent that you are all-in with the concept that Washington has the final say in health care. They don’t have ANY say, except with federal employees. Conservative governors should be making this point right now, and threatening to nullify any federal enforcement of socialized medicine. Problem solved! I guess that would be unconscionable to you political beta-males?

I don’t believe Washington should have any say in citizens’ healthcare, but only one of us is under the delusion that you’re ever going to roll it all back at once.

As I said, Obama, Sanders and the rest of the communist party are all toasting to your principles today. As we drift further left, your principles will be epitaph on the republic’s headstone.
