101. Not bad for someone who didn’t know if he’d see April 19th 1942.

Gosh, he was Col. Doolittle’s copilot. Gives me chills. I read “Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo” at an impressionable age, like 9.

While at Eglin the Raiders practiced taking off from a marked line. I can’t recall the distance.
On one of the TV history type channels they had the owner of one of the surviving B-25s try to duplicate the feat. He revved the engines and let it roll.
He could not do what those WWII pilots did. He did say they had 115 octane gasoline back then.

They cut lots of weight also
To: telstar12.5
In the film of the actual takeoff taken from a nearby cruiser, it appears some of them almost lift straight up off the deck. I guess that is where the expression, “turn into the wind” comes from.

I know they removed a lot of stuff to save weight but wonder how much they regained due to extra fuel tanks being added.

If I remember correctly, the gun turrets were removed and replaced with fuel tanks.

Marks a welcome change from the previous administration, which would have placed a call to General Tojo to apologize for being mean to him.
