I think they should rename the road leading to the city dump.

Southwest L.A. loves 'Obama Boulevard' proposal but wonders: 'Why not a major street?'

Major streets run through prosperous areas of the cities, streets with expensive addresses and thriving commerce. As big, prosperous cities age these areas decline, and when this begins to happen, the people with the expensive properties and the successful businesses relocate and are replaced by a lower class of people, and become havens for crime.

This destroys any incentive for people with disposable income to go there to do business, or even travel through such areas.

Big cities all over the country have formerly major streets named after Martin Luther King. As the father of the civil rights movement, Dr. King deserves the respect and reverence in which his name is held, especially by black people, so such honorariums are appropriate.

Unfortunately, these places are always in some of the most dangerous ghetto areas of the city. No businesses want to locate there. If you go into a strange city and find yourself on "MLK Boulevard", you know you're someplace you're not supposed to be.

The same thing will occur on the "Obama Boulevards" that appear like mushrooms after a rain. They don't need to declare another "no go" zone where businesses and law abiding people are afraid to go.

Jeez, just a road? This is OBAMA, your megastar. Take down the “Hollywood” sign and replace it with OBAMALAND, at least, I mean this is your god. A little more reverence here please.

Why not change Martin Luther King Blvd to Obama Blvd and be done with it?

Obama Street will become the new MLK Street as a easy signpost to avoid that area.

Amen

Obama Street is a one-way dead end.

Obama named streets will rival every MLK named road in most cities for violence along the thoroughfare.
