Ottos “confession”

“He talked animatedly about the “severe crime” that had put him there: trying to take a propaganda banner for someone back home, supposedly in return for a used car and to impress a semi-secret society he wanted to join, and all under the supposed direction of the U.S. government.”

Yeah, he wasn’t told what to say.

Did they ever hear of the Korean War?

Given the state of history instruction in the public schools, probably not. And if they had, they would have been indoctrinated in Comrade I. F. Stone's perspective that the war was our fault.

I don’t know if Otto’s family encouraged him to go or not.

I haven’t really commented on this ‘case’ but I find it hard to find ‘sympathy’ for the kid.
I thought I heard his father say he was adventurous and was trying to get educated prior entering college.

Uh, if he wanted world travel etc he could have enlisted.

I was lucky enough to find myself in Tijuana Mexico, Pearl Harbor TH & Yokosuka Japan prior my 17th bd and the thought NEVER crossed my mind to vandalize something, or ‘steal’ something just because it was there.

I actually feel the same for this kid as I did for the one that got his 15 minutes by getting caned in Singapore.

Yes, a foolish way to end ones life and a harsh lesson to learn BUT one must act accordingly.

While on the ‘soapbox’, I have been hearing about the BRAVE, HEROIC Alexandria Cops the past few days because they ran towards the gunfire not hid.

Yes, heroic to a point but isn’t that why we hire them as police? To go above and beyond what the normal citizen is willing to do?

Personally, I still go towards the action, not away from it so I find it hard to really get on board the ‘hero’ train.....and still cringe when seeing pics of some of the ‘mass shootings’ where all the cops were hunkered down OUTSIDE the building...

Right, Wrong or Indifferent, back in ‘my day’, someone would have rushed into the building, not sit outside awaiting orders...ESPECIALLY when one could hear the kids screaming and shots being fired....

PROGRESS, DISCIPLINE.....??

Young Pioneers. Sounds like the old USSR version of the Boy Scouts.

The Young Pioneers ripped off the Boy Scouts even down to their motto, "Bud' Gotov" (be prepared).

I hope Warmbiers family sues the living effin sh*t out of that commie bastard. Talk about collusion, that’s a guy colluding with the criminal North Korean government to kidnap innocent people so the Norks can use them as bargaining chips, and it is a kidnapping. Those kids were scammed into thinking it was safe, they even dared them. Warmbier didn’t steal anything, they set him up and told him what to say. Did you read his “confession”?

“He talked animatedly about the “severe crime” that had put him there: trying to take a propaganda banner for someone back home, supposedly in return for a used car and to impress a semi-secret society he wanted to join, and all under the supposed direction of the U.S. government.”

And people believe that?

He had planned to study abroad in his third year of college in China and heard about Chinese travel companies offering trips to North Korea. His parents were OK with it.

“Otto’s a young, thrill-seeking, great kid who was going to be in that part of the world for a college experience,” Fred Warmbier explained.

Mmm hmm.

He didn’t steal anything. You are listening to what the criminal regime of North Korea said. Otto Warmbiers “confession” mentioned that the US government made him steal which right there should tell you they threatened him unless he said that.

“He talked animatedly about the “severe crime” that had put him there: trying to take a propaganda banner for someone back home, supposedly in return for a used car and to impress a semi-secret society he wanted to join, and all under the supposed direction of the U.S. government.”

“But we are developing exiting new ventures like guided tours through tiger and polar bear enclosures”, the statement went on to say.

How can we be sure he actually stole the poster? It's a safe bet that his "crime" was completely fabricated. North Korea has a track record of this sort of behavior going back to the Korean War, when US POW's were forced to confess to engaging in biological warfare.

He shouldn’t have been there, one way or the other.

Like I said, if he wanted adventure in strange lands, should have joined the Army.

Why am I supposed to sit here and just take your explanation verbatim?

The ‘confession’ was a stock, pre-scripted bit that one can virtually read from the Korean War POWs, Pueblo Prisoners and going right up to the Two groups of Sailors that were detained in Iran.....

Just change a word or two...

You couldn’t pay me to go to North Korea, Iran or Afghanistan.

Certainly not as a “tourist”. Good gosh.

It appears the Obama Administration and his State Department believed the NORKs version.

I rest my case when the most honest and straightforward Administration ever tells me something we have been told to believe it or be labeled a racist.....

Mass shootings with cops hunkered down? LOL. Near my ‘ole hometown is a very small city where that exact thing happened. I believe it is now used as an example in law enforcement training as what NOT to do.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=7249853&page=1

snip: “Police arrived just two minutes after the receptionist called 911. Though the shooting lasted only minutes, it took police three hours to make sure the shooter wasn’t still alive and laying in wait for more victims.”

What U.S. citizen would even want to go to North Korea with the Young Pioneers or anyone else now? If people want to visit Korea, why not go to South Korea instead?

Why would any American in his right mind (except part of an invasion force) ever consider a ‘getaway trip’ to North Korea??

Im sorry this guy died but any American who goes to North Korea is looking for a Darwin Award. Rip down a poster of Kim and you’ll get one.
