The Navy needs to name this ship after her like it needs another hole in the head.

Gabby just got shot and survived. Now, there was a Bush-appointed judge there that day who was actually assassinated.
No one remembers his name because the Democrats didn’t hold a funer-rally for him, and for darn sure they didn’t name a ship after him.
Gabby should be ashamed to even accept the honor.

Weaponless?
Is it a target barge?

I was proud to serve aboard the GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER (SSBN656). I would probably desert if stationed aboard a ship named after a woman who’s only fame is getting freekin’ shot! Nuts!

Wikipedia doesn’t even have the names of all six who were killed.
Six people died, including federal District Court Chief Judge John Roll; Gabe Zimmerman, one of Rep. Giffords’ staffers; and a nine-year-old girl, Christina-Taylor Green

Hell, it would have made more sense to name the ship after the little girl.

Naming a navy ship after someone alive should not happen.

LCS?
Is that Landing Craft Small or Littoral Combat Ship?
They’ve gotta stop reusing abbreviations.

Take it back, wikipedia does have the names:

Victims

Six people were killed in the attack;[90] all but Christina-Taylor Green died at the scene of the shooting:[91]

Christina-Taylor Green, 9, of Tucson.[92] Green was accompanied to the meeting by neighbor Susan Hileman.[38][93] As her date of birth was September 11, 2001, she had appeared in the book Faces of Hope: Babies Born on 9/11 (page 41).[94][95][96] She was the granddaughter of former Major League Baseball player and manager Dallas Green and the second cousin of actress Sophia Bush.[95][97]

Dorothy "Dot" Morris, 76, a retired secretary from Oro Valley; wife of George, who was wounded.[90][98]

John Roll, 63, chief judge of the U.S. District Court for Arizona, named to the federal bench by President George H. W. Bush in 1991.[38][99]

Phyllis Schneck, 79, homemaker from Tucson.[90][100]

Dorwan Stoddard, 76, retired construction worker, died from a gunshot wound to the head; his wife Mavy was wounded.[90][101]

Gabriel "Gabe" Zimmerman, 30, community outreach director for Giffords,[2][38] and a member of Giffords' staff since 2006. Zimmerman was the first Congressional staffer killed in the line of duty.[102] ----https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Tucson_shooting

Well, one of the ships I was on was the USS Hyman DD-732. The crew affectionately called her the Merry Cherry. Just sayin’.

There’s a few people there that day more deserving of the honor, such as the guy who tackled the shooter. Naming a ship after Giffords was like giving Obama a Nobel Prize before he’d done a darn thing in office.

Homer Simpson, after being rescued from an angry mob by a helicopter and taken out to sea:

“Are we going to land on an aircraft carrier?”

(Pilot) “No sir, the closest vessel is the USS Walter Mondale. It’s a laundry ship!”

We were a better nation when we had a defined naming convention for our ships and stuck to it: battleships were named after states, heavy cruisers were named after major cities, light cruisers were named after smaller cities, etc.

As for aircraft carriers, I would support naming them after famous admirals (as was done for Adm. Nimitz). But otherwise, I think the Japanese had the right idea; they named their carriers during World War II after flying creatures, both real and mythical. Thus, they had the Flying Dragon (Hiryu), Blue Dragon (Soryu), Soaring Crane (Shokaku), Auspicious Crane (Zuikaku), Peregrine Falcon (Junyo), etc.

As one of her constituents...Gabby Giffords sucked before she got shot. We had to stand outside her office and protest just to get her to agree to meet with us. Then her “town hall” consisted of her doing a Nancy Pelosi imitation and telling us to ‘trust her’ on health care.

She also lied on her advertising. She had large signs posted around on roads saying she was supported and endorsed by the VFW. If you got out of your car and looked at the tiny, 1/4” print at the bottom, you would find it wasn’t the VFW but a PAC the VFW had specifically rejected.

She didn’t deserve to be shot. She DID deserve to be thrown out of office, and she DOES deserve to be treated with scorn and contempt!

Nobody would know her name if she hadn’t got shot, much less get it put on a ship.

Latrines are called ‘heads’ in the Navy, right?

The USS Gabby Giffords should have holes in the head.

This is the same Navy celebrating homosexual month in June according to their facebook page. Look for the USS Bent Over to be an upcoming name.

The only ships that should be named after people are destroyers. And they should only be named after war veterans of the USN who were decorated for valor.
Presidents, Secretaries of the Navy, congress critters, etc. should NOT have ships named after them. Just because the naming board of the USN is trying to suck up...
Yes that includes CVNs.
