For two years I distributed the Eucharist at a hospital founded by the Seventh Day Adventist. We started and ended our journey in a chapel which did have a cross, not a crucifix. We prayed. It was okay. Then the hospital remodeled and added on. The original chapel stayed but a new one was created. The most “religious” item was a jar of sand which somehow was supposed to bring us peace. I took the jar of sand and shook it so that the layers were mixed. If I were doing it now I would simply spill it out on the floor.
I think you may have misunderstood me.
It isn’t the choice to worship simply without any symbols or lavishly with gold crosses and such that I find sad.
It is the deliberate effort by various civic and governmental entities to suppress expression of the Christian faith our country was founded on that I find sad.
Sorry...I guess you didn’t misunderstand me. I didn’t process your post correctly...after re-reading your post, I know what you mean.
