Hold your cell phone over your flower bed, push play and your flowers will be fertilized free.
Scientifically proven, like anthropogenic global warming?
That happened because the walk from the school bus to your front door was uphill, both ways.

Steady media diet of CNN and MSNBC?
Even animals understand the meaning of a swat for bad behavior. A cat, a kitty, a dog, a puppy,.. all know to stop or pause the behavior.
Agreed!!
"There are big regional differences in spanking. Among Southerners, 62 percent of parents spank their kids; that drops to 41 percent in the rest of the country. Similarly, 73 percent of Southerners approve of spanking children, compared to 60 percent elsewhere." ABC News
I've watched 20 minutes of the video and I've found so much that's troubling with its claims (I'm not sure I can take any more listening to it today). I think what's said reflects a secular, anti-Christian perspective, and that's the essential problem. I see the likelihood of a hidden agenda driving fake science.
So, first, begin with a Christian perspective, which is not taken by this professor or the interviewer. The professor is a sociologist, and from what I've seen and heard over the years, "mainstream" sociology is basically die-hard Marxist. I was in a Humanities field and found Marxism to be its base as well.
The first thing that the spirit of antichrist attacks is God's Word. The Bible indeed supports spanking, so of course it's a target for those who deny God.
Secondly, again from a Christian perspective, is that God's idea of "well-being" and "success" for people isn't what's in this program. Here "well-being" and "success" are strictly defined in anti-Christian secular humanist terms. They envision that living a "good life" means being a highly educated, socially liberal and atheistic professional. That's their yard stick. Being a person of faith to the people who do these studies means being a "backwards," "unenlightened" person still "fearfully clinging" to "superstition."
So I wonder how being spanked and middle-class correlates with later on in life having a strong Christian faith, and with having a conservative outlook and voting Republican? I wonder if perhaps they have any statistics on that? I suspect they do. They do know it's more approved of by Southerners.
The Bible's recommendation of spanking is consistent with the Christian beliefs that sin is painfully destructive, and that the ultimate penalty, if we don't repent and turn to Jesus, is a painful eternity in Hell. Again, that doesn't include abuse. But the message is sent through spanking that sin is eternally connected to physical suffering. Spanking also communicates the truth that sin causes true pain to others. That's another truth being lost today, where people convince themselves that something sinful is all right if they can't see any harm being done to other people (with people encouraged not to see). Think of how sex outside of a faithful marriage is justified as "harmless."
I intend to go look for some of the studies done on spanking, but again, I suspect them to be heavily biased and cooked (would any even look for positive effects of spanking?), with untold numbers of confounded variables, correlation taken for causation, and the deceptive use of secular humanist values to measure things like well-being, success and harm.
Fundamentalist, other evangelical Christians have become the main supporters of corporal punishment of children, probably because of their belief in the inerrancy of the Bible, and the frequent advocacy in the book of Proverbs of spanking as the only recommended method to discipline children.
Most child psychologists, religious liberals, secularists, and others now oppose spanking. Children are probably not too keen on it either; from their reactions, it is obvious that they regard spanking as a frightening act of terrorism.
Studies conducted over many decades have shown that even a minor amount of spanking during childhood is correlated with increases in alcoholism, other drug abuse, clinical anxiety and depression during adulthood. However, a cause and effect relationship between corporal punishment and adult problems has not been proven and may be impossible to prove.
From the Chicago Tribune last year -- a "news" article with clear bias and an agenda:
New study says spanking doesn't work, makes children's behavior worse, by Heidi Stevens
A new study on spanking, considered the most complete analysis to date on the topic, finds the more children are spanked, the more likely they are to defy their parents, exhibit anti-social behaviors and experience mental health and cognitive problems.

"The evidence against spanking is one of the most consistent findings in the field of psychology," Gershoff said.
***
"I have a couple of answers I give to people who think, 'My parents spanked me, and I turned out OK,'" Gershoff said. "First, we turned out OK because our parents did other things, like sat us down at the kitchen table and talked to us and gave us reasons why they wanted to see us behave. We turned out OK in spite of spanking, not because of it," she said.
***
I asked Gershoff if she thinks we'll ever see spanking outlawed in the United States. It's illegal, after all, to slug your spouse. Why not your children, who are, arguably, even more vulnerable?
"Society used to look the other way when spouses engaged in violence," she said. "The women's movement changed that. We had a big sea change, and it became illegal. We could see a sea change like that for children, and I hope that we will."
Corporal punishment is banned in close to 50 countries, including Germany, Spain, Kenya, Denmark and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Why not here?
"It's based on our history of treating children as property," psychiatrist Paul Holinger, founder of Chicago's Center for Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, once told me. "And a misunderstanding of our basic built-in feelings and what gets elicited (from spanking) the fear, the shame, the rage, the distress which are neurobiologically toxic reactions."
I hope this new study inspires a closer look at the cruel, outdated and, by all measures, ineffective practice.
As I said, I've believed there's a very strong anti-Christian bias in these sorts of studies, and nothing I've seen so far changes that.
Child abuse is the true problem, and it's illegal yet it happens all the time. Making it illegal hasn't stopped it. And the anti-God beliefs of secular humanism which they force on everyone else is what really hurts people, and particularly children, in a whole host of ways. These same "experts" are actively at work to destroy the marriage and the family.
Probably what really concerns these "experts" is that in non-abusive and/or middle class families, spanking is associated more with being active Christians, and being conservative and voting Republican. That's why it needs to be banned.

Thank you Dr. Spock.
According to these imbeciles, if I'd been caught -- and spanked for -- all the wacky stunts I pulled as a kid ...I'd be a Democrap today! '-)
People who can’t discern between abuse and loving discipline that might involve a well-earned swat on the butt shouldn’t breed.
“10 kids” is child abuse. Children raising chldren. The later children learn primitive grunts as language substitute.
If you listen carefully, you can hear the children who are requesting to be adopted out to a more adult family. Then the requests are turned a joke and never acted on.

How do I explain this as straight forward as possible???...

The typical response of an abuser is arrogance like name calling. That is why you seek power over children, because informed adults make you feel uncomfortable, they do not tolerate your bullying.
You do not even have the language to respond appropriately.
Truth hurts and it should.
Next time you booze up, go get that stick and whack away your anger at defenseless children. Or put them up for adoption.
God disagrees.
Never thought I'd read this on FR, of all places. Democrat Underground, sure, but FR?
You people are the amoral ones. Violence IS A SOLUTION to many problems. I will visit righteous violence on anyone who seeks to harm my family with deadly force.
Addressing your attempted point: Spanking a child is not violence; it is loving discipline. People like you are the reason our civilization is crumbling.
I know many children who were not spanked as children who grew up to be hellions.
Who knew we'd read this nonsense on FR?
Exactly. Outside of the HARD sciences (physics, chemistry) science can be manipulated to support any desired political or social ends desired by a government or any other group that wants to control people. This spanking "study" is crap, plain and simple.
I’m in the same IQ range, and was spanked, and oh, yeah, I deserved every one. And my Dad and Mom did it in a loving manner, and talked to me afterward. I knew every day that they loved me.
