The new “HSR” will be using “CalTrain” tracks on the peninsula between SF and the San Jose area. This came about when the HSR became a “blended” (slow) system due to resident objections and cost.

Do you live in California? I do. The latest jerk job on the taxpayers done by Gov Brown, was to greatly increase the gas taxes, and it is no longer required to go to fixing the roads! The new legislation puts the gas taxes into the general fund, which the governor and his swampy friends can divert any which way they choose; right now, Gov Brown chooses the high-speed train project! Gas taxes should only go towards fixing roads, but not according to Brown. He's made the trains become everyone's problem, even though few will ride them.
Keep in mind that the CalTrans diesels are actually diesel/electric hybrids. The train cars move via electric motors in the wheels, nothing to do with the diesel engine. The diesel engine drives a generator providing electricity to the electric motors that propel the train. And they work just fine. Taxpayers were fed a lie, that the trains "needed" to be electrified - when they already were.
