Erma Gawd ....you get boiler plate and think that’s the policy
Ok. Go on...
Not just the speech was historic. On the stage sat the FLOTUS and Ivanka (both females) and her husband Jarod (a Jew, and a Jewish convert). This is also quite a big thing for the Saudis to do. As was shaking the hand of FLOTUS on the tarmac when they arrived.
The reception of our POTUS & FLOTUS was very good: Red carpet, the King himself arriving to greet the Prez. Many people waiting for the arrival. Contrast that with the reception BO got when he came to Saudi Arabia last time. A few minor aides, and that was it. It was not lost on the King and his people that the first stop for our President's first foreign trip, was Saudi Arabia.
The Donald knows how to send messages without saying a word; and how important symbolism is when dealing with a state like Saudi Arabia. I thought the same thing with his very cordial and personal treatment of the Japanese PM and his wife; and, the Chinese premier and his wife. POTUS pulled out all the stops. And, they were impressed.
Fifty muslim countries showed up for this conference and sat and listened to POTUS give his speech; which, at times I felt it was like, ya know, Daddy's home, straighten up.
Thats an interesting perspective. I had exactly the opposite reaction. I was very happy watching the speech live at how much of it appeared to be an open repudiation of neo-conservatism. Trump made it repeatedly clear he wasnt there to preach to them or change them or force sudden interventions on them. He wants to work with them toward common goals, but not essentially try to force democracy and our values down their throats—we saw where that got us in Iraq and Libya after all.
I really very much like his new stated doctrine of principled realism. Its like a breath of fresh air after all the naïve warmongering and meddling of the Bush and Obama years. We need to focus on clear-cut goals that are in the U.S. national interest like destroying ISIS and keeping nuclear weapons out of the hands of Iran, not this neo-con nation building nonsense that Trump disavowed. Hes not acting like they are perfect, but he knows that many of these Muslim leaders are having their power directly threatened by ISIS and other violent extremists and most of the people in that room strongly fear Iran. We can use these things to our benefit in a pragmatic, Realpolitik sort of way.
yep , read it thru , twice , watched the vid 3 x’s
great everything , as far as I’m concerned
Mr. Trump seemed tired at points , a little slurring .
Try reading a half hour + speech while still in jet lag .
He did better than most could have done .
I heard Steven Miller wrote this speech for him .
You will remember Miller as being the firebrand opener
for many a Trump rally during the campaign

Agreed
I don’t get why people are saying it’s just the same old same old. Sure doesn’t read or sound like it

Thanks. I watched it live but always good to see it again
“Drive them out” is the message, the cry, the “Tear down this wall” speech to the Middle East nations.
Bumping for relevance....
