Perfect for the nice peope ( all Chinese women, as it happens) racing for that one closest parking space at Costco. Their lexuses are really not fast enough for this at 97 mph. ( of course, they give their Lexii a rest later on the highway where they poke along at only 16 mph. )

I tried to get my wife to go along with my scheme to pull $100K out of our retirement. After all, it only took 25 years to amass the money, but 0-60 on 2.8 seconds?

Come on, it’s worth every penny.

My brother and I are both Dodge muscle car fans.
My interests go all the way back to the ‘64 Sport Fury w/426 Max Wedge & 4-speed. I’ve got a couple of the late 60s/early 70s Dodge muscle cars in my possession plus a late model 392 SRT8 Challenger.
He recently purchased a new Hellcat Challenger.
Neither of us have a desire to outright own the new Demon (although I do have an original ‘72 Demon 340 4-spd), but both of us sure would LOVE to make a pass down the strip in one though....LOL
There is a horsepower war going on right now between he Big 3 and it’s pretty amazing what the factories are squeezing out of these new engines. BTW, there is a chip option “for track use only” for the new Demon that takes it well over 1000hp!
I’ll stick with my 392 SRT8, thank you. :)

Definitely worth it considering its resale value if kept in one piece!

“...Definitely worth it considering its resale value if kept in one piece!...”

It would take quite a while for it to really get into the high end “collector status”. It would need ALL the paperwork with it and kept in mint condition a locked garage for a long time....LOL. I probably wouldn’t live long enough to reap the rewards.
The IF you speak of is a serious matter. Many of the new Hellcats were wrecked within an hour of driving off the lot. There are two key fobs for the Cat: a black one and a red one. Using the black one is much like driving my 392 SRT8, but the red one: “Katy bar the door...” LOL. It’s an totally different animal....and “bad to the bone” one at that.

No, it’s not the same at all. They want to ban this car because they think it is inherently unsafe. Not useful for it’s intended purpose. They try to ban “assault weapons” based on them having features that make them more useful for their intended purpose.

Sheesh! Even automotive columnists are now namby-pamby bed wetters. Must have been a journalism major.

Like all specialty cars, the scarcity and rarity of them, being kept in excellent condition, will be what makes the car an INVESTMENT that APPRECIATES over time.

These are investments. Some will use them more than others. Idiots will buy and crash. They’ve been doing that to ferarris and porsches and corvettes and lamborghinis forever.

But largely this will be a collector item for very light use and investment.

Yup. If these people were serious they’d ban all use of cellphones in cars. More people end up injured and dead from this crap each year than muscle car accidents.

800 hp makes them impractical, bound to be high wear and high maintenance. Niche market.

But this is a golden age of fast cars in most respects. Lots of vehicles around with 5 second (a little less or a little more) 0-60 times with great handing (not to mention safety) that have pretty ordinary wear and tear costs as daily drivers.

Their only making 3300 of them this year. The streets won’t be flooded with them. I assume the people who drive them will be saving them for drag racing. If their not its because they are saving them for driving past bars at 5 miles an hour while looking for easy chicks.
