So then what’s paying for Trumpcare?
The way of dealing with pre-existing conditions under Trumpcare is the same as it is under Obamacare; force the insurance companies to insure them regardless. The only out Trumpcare offers is if the individual states establish a high risk pool or join in on the yet-to-be-established federal pool. Where is the incentive for the states to do that? It's got to be expensive and most states are running lean budgets as it is.
I recommend he does like Reagan but not off the cuff. Reagan was extremely effective at 20 minutes speeches on camera taking his case to the American people. I’d like to see Trump in the WH Oval Office doing this in well scripted speeches.
He isn't going to do that. He's going to continue to insist that this is the best Healthcare system ever devised by man and proudly slap his name on it. The unfortunate fact of the matter is that the GOP Congress can hand Trump any crap sandwich they want, and as long as they call it a "deal" then Trump will sign it.
You’re mistaken.
Under Obamacare, the costs of the higher premiums for pre-existing conditions was borne ONLY by other members of the individual exchange. This is exactly why those folks experienced such sharp hikes in premiums. IOW, the size of the group was too small to spread out the increased costs.
Under this new plan, the costs will be spread across the entire state (albeit in much tinier numbers) via the pool devoted to the pre-existing condition policies.

No, I don’t. But I also perceive the numerous eddies that swirl in the waters of the government. Some, perhaps most, that oppose the current that we speak of.
There is faith, and there is trust. Men cannot inspire faith - they must earn trust. I have little trust for the congressional leadership, having witnessed their acts for too long.
I realize that you are not a Trump fan, and that is fine, but please tell me which House and Senate were you going to get a more conservative bill through? Is it in the United States? Is it in the year 2017?
I don’t like the RINO cowards any more than you do, but I live in the real world. Not every GOP member of Congress is in a district or state that elected Trump by a landslide.
I may be in the minority, but I’m not in the mood to duplicate the feats of the Dems in 2010 and beyond.
Yep, that’s the one! Thanks for posting.
A far more conservative bill was passed by Congress in 2015. It defunded the Medicaid expansion, insurance company supports, and individual subsidies that funded insurance premiums. And as icing on the cake it defunded planned parenthood. It was, of course, vetoed by Obama. But if they could pass it in 2015 using reconciliation then they could have done it now. Obamacare would be dead as a doornail, gone in all but name.
In short, the only conservative bill I see is one that does away with the entitlements and the subsidies and the price supports. What was passed yesterday was not conservative in any way, shape, or form.
Oh they could vote and pass it right now, provided you’re interested in giving up both houses of congress...for a bunch of years.

I suggest you wake up, or get out of the house and talk to other people not on Free Republic, my friend. You’ll get a big surprise.
I don’t like the House bill, but I’m glad they passed it. Now the Senate needs to pass a bill, any bill, and then work it out in committee. Even if that final law doesn’t go far enough, it’s a starting place. We can and should then work on cutting federal interference in our medical care even more.
Agreed. And Trumpcare has the same requirement.
Under this new plan, the costs will be spread across the entire state (albeit in much tinier numbers) via the pool devoted to the pre-existing condition policies.
If, and only if, the state establishes a high risk pool. Only 33 states had them pre-Obamacare and they varied widely in premiums and what they would cover. But one thing that they did have in common was they were expensive. So why should a state take that on now? It's an expensive and open-ended fiscal drain that most states today are not in a position to fund. Heck, states like Illinois and Kansas and my own state of Missouri can't cut current spending fast enough to keep up with the deficits; how could they possible take on another obligation? So your high-risk pools may well turn out to be as fanciful as Obamacare's promise that if you like your insurance you can keep your insurance.

So people have been pitching. I haven't the time to listen to an hour long podcast and I haven't seen any transcripts, but I suspect she is waxing poetic on the high-risk pools as well. Does she answer the question of what's in it for the states?
Thanks for asking!
So they were lying through their teeth when they repealed Obamacare all those time? Imagine that.
Instead they pass this trainwreck and promise how it will cover everyone and that premiums and deductibles will plummet and how nobody, but nobody, will be worse off in any way. And when all those broken promises come back to haunt them then that could well have the same effect on Republicans in Congress that Obamacare had on Democrats. Not really seeing the difference.
This is the ranting of someone who has never really accomplished anything significant in terms of systems designs and implementation.

That first step would eliminate nearly $800 billion in taxes!
I hope the next step gets rid of gov’t run healthcare altogether.
