I have a very realistic view of transplants.
Those that have them live vastly shortened lives in constant discomfort, and with constant mental fog.

The easy decision would have been to just abort and go on with life, like tossing away a dish cloth.
This was a VERY hard road to walk — it involved more pain than I can possibly imagine sustaining. The Lord blessed these people with an amazing amount of love, generosity and strength.
I am humbled.

They’ve gotten better in terms of controlling side effects of the antirejection meds so people are living better for a time, but I’m not sure life spans are improved with all the bad stuff that happens occurring like an avalanche in the last months to a year before death. Kidney transplantees do better as when the transplant also fails(and I’ve seen it happen a lot) they have recourse to dialysis. Fungal infections are the worst sort of side effect as the immune systems are suppressed by drugs to keep the body from rejecting the foreign tissues; fungal infections that would normally be counteracted by a healthy immune system. So you are both right and wrong!
