This is the same Blumenthal that voted in favor when Reid nuked the filibuster for all judges below the SCOTUS. AND, I’m sure he would have voted for the nuclear option that Reid said he would use if Clinton won and the Repubs filibustered her SCOTUS nominations. Blumenthal is just another intellectually dishonest democrat.
The Democrats can thank then Senator Reid for the filibuster’s end. The Democrats showed that the rule is removable when it suits the Democrats. They can’t have it both ways i.e. Republicans have to follow the filibuster rule when it’s action they want and Democrats dispense with it when it’s action Democrats want. The filibuster lost it’s usefulness when it was replaced by the Faux Filibuster wherein Senators merely had to indicate they would nail their shoes to the floor for so long as it took to kill a bill. They had to actually work for it. The sensible alternatives now are to go back to the real filibuster or eliminate it altogether. The pro forma “filibuster” simply freezes the Senate. It is not brought out for really serious reasons but is proclaimed for all sorts of minor things.
