One thing I notice about that article is that it refers to intercepted messages AND FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS. I understand that the financial transactions related to a bank account maintained by Trump or his companies and that Hillary herself sent out a tweet referring to the account prior to the election suggesting that she had knowledge of that. It seems to be lost in the maize of allegations that the FBI was snooping on Trumps bank accounts. That’s as bad as wiretapping Trump Tower. And it appears that the FBI was funneling this info to Hillary.

I would think that if a U.S citizen were found to be involved in terrorism then normal(non-FISA) means of intelligence gathering would be used?

The protections are there to stop precisely the actions that the Obama administration was doing.

Obama has a legal out for that. He can always say that the INTENT was to monitor the Russians but the side effect was to have captured their conversations and communications with the Trump team.

The major consequences for Obama and Hillary here aren't legal but political. How ironic this would become known as Watergate 2. The consequences for the WAPO and NYT in particular, and the propaganda press in general? They don't recover from this lie.
