Unless I've missed a story, I think that it's the lyin' media (NY Times specifically) that is saying that Comey is calling Trump a liar. They quoted "sources", not Comey. He has not spoken to the press, nor has the FBI made a statement.
Except it is the duty of national intelligence to monitor foreign communications or communications with foreign officials.
So, you are correct in that it is A story, but it is distinct.
The story you’re referring to is the illegal leaking of LEGAL surveillance.
The Trump wiretap story is ILLEGAL surveillance, which is much bigger.
