One of the delicious ironies is their (University of California at Berkeley) mascot the Golden Bear is named after a Calvary Captain the Indians called the Golden Bear who was one of the bloodiest Indian killers in the West. He was known for scalping his victims of the Modoc and Klamath tribes in Northern California.
