There are millions of technical people the just don’t want to pay what the market would dictate so the artificially flood the market with foreigners under H-1b.

And so many here need to pay off their student loans they took to become qualified to do these technical jobs. We win on all fronts.
My son tells me that in the Austin Area it is more like 50% and long hours. He said 2/3 of his building is now manned by H1B Indians at low wages.
You can pretty much point your finger at any profession and ruin it for Americans with a huge H-1 visa quota. Politicians get rich this way.
Our sympathies to your son, living and working in Austin. It is a city with low wages and high rent and taxes. The traffic is a total nightmare. Avoid it if you can.

An H1B is tied to his sponsoring company, which will force him to work at below-market wages. A full immigrant, able to choose who to work for, will maintain wage levels.
Immigration short circuits the free market for domestic labor. If wages were allowed to follow market forces then higher wages would induce more to go into this grueling meat grinder field. Now we just import cheap 3rd worlders and wonder why nobody is majoring in STEM.

Um, a good chunk of the population (e.g., roughly a quarter of our population is in the bottom quartile in intellect) actually are. Contrary to common opinion on this board, for example, there is a significant difference between good programmers and programmers who aren’t actually good at their job, despite having the relevant training. Force our tech companies to hire them, and more non-US tech companies will be more competitive and gain market share.
