If you go to China and visit the stores you realize how few US products make it onto the shelves. If they are there, they have had to pay a huge tariff and are not price competitive with other products. 10% is a good opening volley.

We should also charge them a premium to be educated in our universities. We dish out a lot of free money to chinese graduate students. How much do you think china spends on foreign graduates, assuming there are people who bother studying in china...?

I raise your 10% to a 35% tariff of China. Historically that is more effective.

China quality is poor, while hazardous to your pets.

Let freedom ring. Let billionaire commie generals suck for their tyranny.

China has both an import duty (typically 10%) and VAT tax (typically 17%).

If a 10% import tariff is good economic policy, why not make it 50%? Or 200%?

The corp. I worked for could not sell it's networking gear/server hardware in China. They had to be brought in by a company that we had a 51% stake, re-branded, then sold under that Chinese name. American gear not welcome in China.

So, what's wrong with that picture? A few years ago, my wife and I were on vacation in CO. As we journeyed back to our home, we went through the desert of Southern New Mexico. We were driving, looking down into a valley at a train. We could not see the end of the train...that's how long it was. As far as your eyes could see were double stacked COSCO (Chinese Ocean and Shipping Company) containers traveling from the West coast into America.

Millions upon millions of $$$’s worth of Chinese made goods coming into this country and the Chi-coms routinely block U.S. goods.

This has got to change.

It is not, nor has it ever been, customary for the President to obtain the approval of hostile foreign powers when he is choosing his staff!

A tariff is a tax that will be passed on to consumers. It’s a bad idea and not what Republicans have stood for in recent times.

Start at 10% and raise it 2% per year until you reach 20%.

It is absolutely unreasonable for gloBULList Free Traders to expect there to be completely unfettered economic freedom across global/international borders. Actually the Constitution (codifies)provides for tariffs and duties on commerce between the USA and the rest of the world.

There is free and unfettered duty free commerce between the states as regulated by the feds. All 50 states have to follow the same federal commerce regulations.

There is NOTHING in the US Constitution that provides for economic freedom across international borders and in fact the opposite is true.

Remember George Washington signed the fist tariff act in 1789.

It is decades past time for those murderous tyrants to face even the faintest flicker of competition for dumping their lead-tainted crap on American markets to the detriment of our nation. I’m not surprised they’re shocked...they’re probably scared because the consequences of their 1-child act is about to start hitting home and their entire economy depends on the Wal-Mart mentality.

We nor the rest of the free world can afford trading with the biggest most powerful communist nation on earth.

China is taking all that trade and turning that money into spending on military and space.

Trump should ask for an international ban on trade with China.
