Actual people as electors prevented a President Aaron Burr, an ancestor of Al Gore, with a comparable megalomaniac complex.
The fact remains that, those actual "people as electors", should not be voting against the will of the people. The people are the deciders, and they should not be overruled by the "dictatorial" decision of one elector who probably didn't even vote for the candidate that the voters chose by majority.
That a candidate isn't fit to be president, as you suggested, should not enter into the picture. It's the people who decide, and not an elector who might not represent the will of the people. That is not to suggest that "the will of the majority of voters" is how the president should be elected, because, the electoral college system has worked very well since it was instituted.

You are speaking of Cosmic justice, not how the constitution was designed. The electors may have saved the Republic by putting Thomas Jefferson in office rather than Aaron Burr. And, yes, the electors also thwarted the clear plurality of the people when they chose John Quincy Adams over Andrew Jackson.
But J. Quincy was a one term president and Andrew Jackson followed him easily four years later.
There is a reason we elect actual people as electors. If you don't like it, then get the constitution changed.

Amazing how many people like to continue to cause themselves misery and pain instead of accepting what was decided a month ago. they are causing themselves much dis-ease not yet fully known by their stress fueled endeavors.

Then, what the heck is the validity of choosing an elector who is 19 years old, with virtually no experience in politics or in government or in working or in life? And, it's not just the 19 year old's experience that should be question; it's the politics which should be questioned too, where you can end up with someone who is bound and determined to destroy the country with the way he/she thinks and which could represent many that think alike?
While it may have been true that electors were people of good standing and good experience and fantastic wisdom, and also had the best interests of the country at heart, much of that is no longer true, and so, it's time to take the "human" side of electors away from the electoral college, and just count the votes that represents each state. We don't have to change the constitution, and we should just insist that, at the state level, no elector can go against the wishes of the people who did actual voting. It's the "democratic" way in a democratic republic system.

I believe the idea is that it would free all the other electors, not just Colorado.
