I also consider myself relatively well informed via FR, and I was also initially confused by the ad.

I think the ad is far too subtle for most millenials to “get.”

Most millenials that I know are relatively ill informed about history. They are also ill informed about current events, relying mainly on social media and their millenial peers (who have the same problems). They tend to be self absorbed and relatively disconnected from their immediate reality, which in most cases seems to revolve around their job (if they have a job), school or “hipster” style social life (if they do not have a job), and hipster style conspicuous consumerism.

For example today I asked a female millenial utility company payment clerk whether she favored trump or hillary. she hesitated, seemingly somewhat confused at being confronted by the question for the first time. I tried to help by suggesting that they might both be unsavory, but that one might be better than the other... but which was better in her opinion? She said that she did not know, so I asked her if she had been following the wikileaks controversy over the past few days. she said no, she had not. So I reset to the zero and gave her a 4 minute comparison between Trump and Hillary (as best as I could). I placed special emphasis on the benghazi deaths, email scandal, that Bill Clinton was a known sexual predator, and that the MSM is in the tank for Hillary and cannot be trusted (I forgot to include election fraud but I was already spending more time with her than I felt I had a right to expect). Much if not most or all of the information I gave her (compiled from highlights of standard information such as might be found on FR though not in the MSM) seemed genuinely new to her, from the expression on her face. I think many if not most other millenials would yield the same reaction (if they are not already brainwashing into being diehard Hillary supporters). I came away saddened, though somewhat solaced by the consideration that if a person is that ill-informed about current political events, that there is at least some chance that they will not be sufficiently motivated to vote at all.

Back to the ad, it might be more effective if the photo of the millenial hipster dude is replaced by a photo of a millenial hipster chick or a minority dude, because Hillary’s voter support stronghold seems to be women and minorities. Maybe a young black female of voting age.
