I find this conservative affection for Paglia an odd thing. She holds so many ungodly views and lives an immoral life. It seems we are willing to ignore all that because she pokes at liberals with a stick maybe once a month. How malleable we are.If you want to win an election, you will have to convince all sorts of people to vote for your candidate, or at least stay home. Not just decent conservatives. Someone like Paglia could help with that. Maybe she herself will vote for the Green Party candidate or whatever, but if she can help create a strong, bad feeling about Hillary among urban liberals, it could prove useful…
“Paglia is some weird metro Cosmo woman. stay away.”
And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us. - Luke 9:50
Paglia is a gem: She thinks for herself, sees things as they are, and her thoughts are untainted by wishful delusion (a common fault of too many of todays so-called elite thinkers).
Her writing is a cold glass of water in the desert.
..........
Fair enough; I sit corrected by those who have done the corrected; I hope she votes for Trump.
She’ll probably vote for Jill Stein.
Her obsession with Madonna was so strange.
If feminists truly want to promote women as strong, competent and credible then they should think long and hard about making Hillary the first woman president. Is Hillary what they want America to think about when they think of women in power?
Not at all. She is earthy, feisty and very deeply intellectual. I don't know whatever happened to turn her gay, because she is a five-foot tall little Italian lady who should have been a mother and grandmother, except that her huge intellect kept getting in the way. She revered her own grandmother and the place of women in the home and the family of the women of that generation. Unlike most feminists and so-called Cosmo women, she appreciates men's traditional roles in society and in history.
Why did she vote for Clinton and Obama?
That does not make a person a "Cosmo" woman. You really don't know much about her, do you? She and I traveled in the same profession circles in the same city for decades, although I never met her personally, but have friends who knew her very well. So I've been trying to reflect something closer to her actual personality, which your descriptor did not do.
I am sorry for offending you. Note the way I stated that. In general, I have no use for intellectuals...and I consider her one. If she quit Salon or voted for Trump, that would make me take notice. Intellectuals, PhDs, a lot of the time are “book smart, life stupid”...my interactions with them usually come with introductions meant to inflate their egos...”hi, this is doctor so and so”...how about Mr. So and so, and let me get to know you as a human first. Exceptions to this may be Walter Williams...I called his office at George Mason a few years back and caught him there out of the blue...what a great discussion! 30 minutes of pure joy. Thomas Sowell is another good one...last was a man who worked for my dad for many years...Electrical engineer PhD at GE...the man was a Cajun with a thick accent, my dad said he was the smartest guy he ever worked with...liked to be called Mr so and so...
Back to the subject, intellectuals take more than they give...they write, opine, and create nothing useful for society (in general) - what do they provide society? Krauthammer, Noonan, Dowd, Et al, nothing. Paglia’s books...ugh...I just have no interest and not impressed...sorry. I’ve taken a few laps around the barn...sorry for that, too. Likely you disagree and may admire her, ...it’s Free Republic, so we’re free grown ups and can disagree. Cheers.
If I disagree, it’s mostly on the basis of having a graduate degree myself, as do most of the adults in my family. We have all tried to add value.
If anybody knows how to skewer the left, from the left, it’s Camille Paglia. Like her or not (I always have, warts and all), she knows where the philosophical bodies are buried. We’d do well to pay attention and capitalize in outreach efforts. So many attempts from the right to sway left-leaning independents only appeal to those who are already conservative, for instance an ad I just saw from the NRA attacking the “liberal establishment.” If they were seeking to fire up the base with red meat, they did that and did it well, but anyone else is going to shut down a few seconds into the ad.
I know independent liberal type women that love Camille Paglia
Paglia’s one of the few feminists who are actually fun. What a treat!
Thankyou. I think you have nailed the connection between sodomy and contraception.
#54 may be of interest.
Yes, excellent analysis. And I agree that Camille Paglia is a fun writer. So was Florence King.
