While Dole wasn’t a good choice to run for President, i always liked him. I still remember him talking against Hillary care and stating what so many have forgotten: “It is not the government’s job to do good, its job is to prevent harm” (the gist even if not verbatim).

I think Dole, unlike some establishment types, is a true patriot who sacrificed a lot for the country and guinuinely cares about the American people. I have no doubts that he believes Trump will be a much better person than Hillary Clinton to save the country.

I think too that unlike a lot of the more conservative NeverTrumpers, in his political career Dole was someone who could compromise and work with people who were not perfect and with whom he did not agree 100% of the time. There are a lot of ideological “purists” out there, who think that because Trump’s views only overlap with their positions 75% of the time instead of nearly all the time, they can’t in good conscience support him. I would guess Dole’s the sort to think that’s a form of shooting yourself in the foot when you could get most of what you want instead. (Of course Ryan is great on compromising and even capitulating—but when working with Obama, not so much with his own party’s nominee.)

Unlike others expressing horror that Trump could talk dirty, Dole was never as big as many on the moral judgment against others thing. Add to that his long-term loyalty to the party, and I’m not surprised he’s sticking with Trump.

Nixon was a globalist. One of his daughters stumped for Barack H. Obama.

I think the “secret” meeting being mentioned was Henry Kissinger’s ground-breaking trip to China in 1971.

I'm going to need some better evidence than his daughter stumped for Obama, 14 years after Nixon died. She supported Romney in the next go around.

Patti Reagan's politics definitely are not an insight to Ronald Reagan's politics.
