Everything I need to know about St. Lewis I learned from National Lampoon’s Vacation. :-)
and which race commits these lovely crimes? Just one intuitive cracker askin....
the wrong side won in 1865
Ferguson, MO is a St. Louis suburb. We can thank Obama’s DOJ for St. Louis’ rapid ascent to a title normally held by Detroit, Gary or Newark.
Too many Amish
A fun fact: Aloys P. Kaufmann, the last Republican mayor of St. Louis, served from 1943 to 1949.
Worse than Ferguson or Chicago?
C’mon, Chicago, you’re losing the contest!
Ellen: Clark, this is so dangerous. We have no business being in an area like this.
Clark: Well, look at it this way, honey, this is a part of America we never get to see.
Ellen: That’s good!
Clark: No, that’s bad. I mean, we can’t close our eyes to the plight of the cities. Kids, are you noticing all this plight? This’ll just make us appreciate what we have. (There’s a gunshot somewhere near the car, followed by a scream) Roll ‘em up!
I took the wrong interstate exit once and landed in downtown East St Louis. It was like dropping a puppy into a box of starving fleas. Could not wait to get out of there. And that was forty years ago. Can’t imagine what it must be like now.
"Take that East St. Louis"
I grew up on the east side of the City of Detroit, and I can handle myself down there to this day. St. Louis? No thanks, and not a chance.
St Louis is a physically small city that has lost well more than half of its population and probably 3/4 of its tax base in the last half century. It has been dangerous for a lot longer than the last couple of years. Because it is so small, rival gangs are all crammed together in very small ‘territories’, so disputes are constant. There are nice parts of the city, but one wrong turn and you’re the Griswalds trying to find a way out.
Amazing that 35 years later, the movie still makes me LOL.
Chicago does not appear on the list. Could the release of FBI statistics be skewed or is Chicago occupying the default position on urban violence?
Yup. Used to be a really pretty nice downtown as recent as 10 years ago. I worked downtown in the late 90s and early 2000s. Saw a lot of positive change then. I don’t go there much anymore.
There’s a reason why you hear St Louis in rap songs. It’s not coincidence..
There are enough decent areas of Chicago to pad the denominator.
