Erdogan is assuredly not secular and is hardcore Islamist. His sending the terrorist-laden Mavi Marmara to Israel is only one example.

I never said that Erdogan was secular. I was saying that those who tried to overthrow him weren't doing so in the name of secularism either.

This isn't Egypt where a secular Al Sisi overthrows an Islamist leader. It's an attempt by one group of Islamists to overthrow another. We don't know enough about the coup plotters yet to know which is worse.

It could be, or it could not be. Reporting out of there would be full of propaganda, especially given the preference for Erdogan coming from “Western” governments and media.
