A retread that didn’t have much to work with in ‘96.

As I don’t know this Murphy personally, I would be hesitant to make a negative judgement, tagging him with his former employers Dole/Romney. Technically true, but, he may be a actually be really talented guy.
I DO know that DJT’s hiring record is strongly positive. He seems to have a natural talent for sniffing out the window-dressing types and recognizing raw talent.

A fresher choice would be out there, but there’s this trust factor to consider.

Problem is that within the GOP there is basically no one to turn to who knows anything at all about winning or being successful, and almost everyone in it sucks in almost every imaginable way.

Here’s to the hope that losing helps teach lessons on winning.
It’s worked before in my own life.
Trump is way more energetic than Dole was. I remember Dole looking really dull and tired by election 96
He also ran very moderate. (Not enough contrast either, except he was much less energetic than Clinton.) He was just plain old...looked old and tired.
(think Bernie and, or Clinton for that matter)

I agree. Nobody tops Trump’s energy level.

It was Dole’s turn, the last of the WWII generation to run.

Trump has a very tricky task. He needs the structure and knowledge of the party, but the party leaders know he’s as dangerous to their place at the trough as he is to the Democrats.
A lot of the campaign types are mercenary to a degree, and Trump values loyalty. He has a few GOP types on the team who know where some bodies are buried.
The negotiations going on now between Team Trump and the GOP would probably strike a writer of political thrillers as too far fetched and outrageous to be believed by his readers.
Hope someone writes a book when it’s over.

It was reported by Politico that Wiley was not responsive to Lewandowski or other officials in the Trump organizaation. In recent weeks he clashed with Karen Giorno, a Lewandowski ally who ran Trumps campaign during the Florida GOP primary. It may be noted that Wiley was was campaign manager for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walkers failed campaign. He may have been hired to help heal the rift between the GOP and the Trump campaign. It seems that he did not fit the game plan that Cory Lewandowski was setting forth.

I guess that Trump and Manafort calling bringing talent to the table. Without current relevant dope on the guy, I'll give Trump the benefit of the doubt - different candidate and really different times may make him the guy for the job - or at least this phase of it.
