The economy is in decline. 95 million Americans of working age are not in the labor force. This is an all time record.

There is little or no growth in the economy. The real unemployment rate is around 10%.

High value added middle class jobs are going away. Only low skill, low wage jobs remain.

The private sector is in decline. The government keeps growing uncontrollably.

Obama is destroying the most prosperous nation in the history of the world.

How does that unemployment percentage work? I am assuming this 95 million are adults who can work, so that is approx. 1/3rd of the population. The US population is around 300 million so why isn’t the unemployment rate 30%?? Actually it should be even higher than that when you remove kids, the disabled, and retired from that 300 million. For the sake of argument say once you remove them you get a population of 200 million. So why isn’t the unemployment rate 50%? 95 million is a LOT of people!

Obama is destroying the most prosperous nation in the history of the world.

"Free" Trade, open borders, de industrialization and unlimited immigrant visas are destroying the country. Obama is just managing the decline.

All those trillions “invested” in the non-workers, nothing to show for it.

I got regular work just a couple of months ago. It takes me one or two days to earn what I used to earn per hour, but regular income beats long stretches of nothing.

As for my usual work, the client base is too broke to hire me.

Yeah, I’m with Trump. Time to carry out the globalist trash.

My wife is a homemaker who homeschools the kids, she is not employed, but she shouldn’t count as unemployed. Neither should my 54 year old friend who saved and invested and no longer works by choice.

Below is an explanation of the calculation. What the explanation leaves out, and how it under calculates the number is: It only includes people who are currently on unemployment. That’s how they know you were available for work in the last four weeks, you said you were when you applied for your unemployment check. So, not to beat a dead horse, if you are now off unemployment you are considered, for the sake of this calculation, no longer included. You don’t exist. But, you are still unemployed.

How to calculate unemployment rate

According to the definition of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employed persons are:

•16 or older
•Work for an employer or are self-employed
•Not volunteers
•Not engaged in self-service such as homemaking, etc.

Unemployed persons are:

•16 or older
•Are not engaged in any employment (self or otherwise)
•Were available for job in last four weeks
•Have made specific efforts to find a job at any time during last four weeks
The formula for calculating the unemployment rate is as follows:

unemployment rate = unemployed divided by the sum of employed + unemployed.

For example:

In December 2012, 143,060,000 US residents were employed and 11,844,000 were unemployed.

Unemployment rate = 11,844,000 ÷ (143,060,000 + 11,844,000) = 7.64%

95 million is a LOT of people!

The labor force is defined as people over 16 who are not institutionalized, i.e. in prison or medical institutions. So that 95 million figure of people not working includes unemployed and people who have given up looking for work. It also includes high school students who are not working, college students who are not working, retired people, and people who are unemployed by choice like stay-at-home mothers.

It’s strangely difficult to find hard adult population numbers that you can match up with labor stats.

Found, from a 2014 stat, that there were 245 Million adults in the US. 2 yr old numbers, but putting the 95 Million adults not in the workforce now.
(not actively looking or actively working full or part-time)

Comes out to 39%.

Obama and his complicit GOP have destroyed America.

Ryan, Boehner, Val, Obama, McConnell and the rest
have brought ObamaCARE, ObamaTRADE, IranNUKES,
and death of every kind, from incurable tuberculosis
to ISIS coming in every crack to the homeland.

The dems claim the LFPR is down because people are retiring. This graph suggests otherwise.

Question! What about all the various people receiving government benefits and are not working? Why work if the benefits of not working are better than bothering with the responsibilities of a job?! Social Security Disability. Undocumented work. Part time work with earned income tax credits. Work part time at an easy low wage job and the Gov. Will give you money and free benefits. People are not working because the alternative from the Gov. Pays better. Sometimes it is called “working the system.”

If they are of “working age” then you have to knock out “retirement” as one of the contributing factors

I just saw a quote from Obama in the headline of an article on Yahoo - "the economy is doing great and if you don't think so you are dumb". I agree that he thinks we are dumb, but, thanks to DJT, more and more people are seeing the light!

That 994,000,000 probably drops to 60,000,000 when you throw out the retirees and the disabled.
But if you just nilly willy throw that 60,000,000 into the employment numbers, you will end up with something in the neighborhood of 20-25% unemployed. We all know these are unacceptable numbers and they must be disguised in order to protect el Presidente and his legacy. After all, he is the fustest hombre negro to occupy the Casa Blanca, doncha know.

A little Spanish lingo for the folks in San Jose.
