Let’s give him six death penalties simultaneously.
In this case, witnesses claimed he made statements indicating that he had singled out the church because its congregation is black.
Something bothers me about this but I can’t quite put my finger on it yet.
Will this punk get royal treatment a-la Mumiah Abu Jama, the cop killer, by anyone? Will he be martyred a-la Tookie Williams by anyone?
Would it be the DOJ involvement?
I could be wrong, but it became a federal issue when Roof fled into North Carolina, crossing a state line. Also, this is the very definition of a hate crime, and provably so, as his writings and ranting confirm the racial motive. So the Feds have the option to remand to the state, but chose to pursue it themselves.
Obama wasn’t about to squander this opportunity, it’ll be part of his legacy to convict and secure the death penalty for Dylan Roof. I’m good with that.
Roof’s defense may have a case for insanity defense, but the people of Charleston deserve the kind of justice that, in this case, only the death penalty will provide, IMHO.
Death penalty is appropriate but why are Federal prosecutors going for the death penalty instead of state prosecutors? When did this become a federal crime?
The “definition of a hate crime” is a crime perpetrated against “protected groups”; it is the same as any other crime, but not only is the “protected” status factored in but also one’s emotions, to increase the degree of punishment. So I don’t know what you meant by “definition”, but if it doesn’t match that, the liberal decree-makers will not agree.
