We are screwed big time if he does .
Any way you look at it we are hosed.
You left out Mexican drug lords. Syrians and Iranians.
Their leadership is, though.....Absolutely not. Where did you get that? After the Dems lost the war, the VN threw out the Chinese by going to war them.
Sir, the Vietnamese Communists (when they were still North Vietnam) relied heavily on aid from the Chinese during the war. In return, then-PM Pham Van Dong recognized Chinese territorial sovereignty over the islands in the South China Sea (the Vietnamese call it the East Sea, but that’s another issue for another day). Of course, Pham’s recognition should have no legal effect, but that’s how desperate they were to defeat their Vietnamese brothers to the south.
The 1979 war was almost 40 years ago. They patched up rather quickly, with the state press organ, Nhan Dan, stating the government’s intention in the early 1980s to mend relations with their elder communist brothers to the north. The People’s Army of Viet Nam, and the secret police, General Department No. 2 and others, receive training and intelligence from Chinese and share tactics on keeping power. People wanted to hold memorials of that war in 2014 but were suppressed by the government. The Chinese are heavily invested in Vietnamese mining and manufacturing, so there is even less reason for the government to want to take the fight to China.
So when will this clear the way for gun imports from Vietnam?
China has helped to kill or hurt more Americans post WWII than any other country. Either coming over the hills in Korea, or aiding and helping the Vietnamese.
Exactly.
This is a swipe at China. And of course every vet who served and/or died in Viet Nam. OSewer strikes again.
I thought the Russkies were there.
Just like when Nixon went to China, to thumb our nose at the Soviets.
The Russians left in 2002.
Surprised Putin didn’t want to return.
I think kissingers realism about the future world economy and military balance had a lot todo with that
Is there a country on this planet left untouched by the warmonger Obama ?
IF Time can be trusted, as well as a NV I met in 1970 (and has been a ‘friend’ since) I post this. I have no time today....http://time.com/100417/china-vietnam-sino-vietnamese-war-south-china-sea/
Thanks for the insight on this. I knew the Vietnamese were no fans of the chicoms, but I had no idea about the Indonesians.
Thanks for the reply and the article.
The problem with the Hanoi government, as with Beijing, is to discern what they say in public and what they do in private (and it is kept private because there is virtually no independent media and egregious abuses of power are reported much later by disgruntled government officials in confidence). Individual PAVN/NV soldiers may hate Chinese aggression, as would any sane Vietnamese person, regardless of politics. But from the regime’s perspective, they got so much at stake that outright reaction to Chinese advances is too risky. Beijing and Hanoi have been exchanging words through their state-run media for decades, but look at what the government has done. Whenever there is any protest involving China (e.g., 2008 Olympics torch relay, bauxite mining, toxic products from China), the government steps in to suppress the protesters. (Although of course, the VC has always prided itself on harsh repression and terror, so it’s no surprise.) The state press rarely mentioned the 1979 war with China, as if it didn’t happen. The government could have made a big deal out of kicking the Chinese from the border, but it didn’t.
That is all I will say for now.
It has been obvious for seven and a half years that congress doesn’t care what Obama does.
