Yes, wrong messenger! Courage, right strategy, inventive and facile tactician, he fights, but just not the right man to lead. He drinks, I am sure you have heard. But we really wanted McClellan, or McClernand, or well, we will get back to you because we are still looking. I understand you concern. That Lee is a tricky bastard and we need to find the right person to fight him. You sure McClellan won’t do? You really did not give him a proper chance. How about his aide de camp? Just not that Grant feller. Really!
There is an old saying that Good Judgment is the result of experience and experience is the result of bad judgment.

But then TR was not a "true conservative" so we don't need to pay him much mind either.
