Stockman has evidently failed math. Last year, the US Govt spent $1.6 Trillion on Social Security and Healthcare (neither mentioned in the Constitution).
We spent $0.6 Trillion on Defense (mentioned in the US Constitution.
The problem is an out of control welfare state, not alliances that have served us well by preventing another World War.
There are legitimate discussions to have on how well DOD spends money (not well at all IMHO), but to truly affect government spending and the debt, we must at some point wean the general public off the government teat.
