Naps, the speaker never said to “kill gays.” How is Cruz supposed to say he heard someone say to “kill gays?” Jake didn’t provide the proof Jake used, so for Cruz to say he never said that gays should be killed could have been a “gotcha” moment that wasn’t worth entering into.

If Jake said you had said “sodomize animals,” I could say “I don’t know what he said” or I could say, “If Naps said that, of course I disagree with that.” Either is fine to say and still accurate.
