Holy moly. (Can I say that?)
Exactly. All he had to do to respond to Romney was point to his real successes and no one would care about insignificant steaks and water. Instead he stands there and lies about small businesses that failed. He turned them into things of signicance for anyone who cares about honesty. It makes no sense.
I can’t believe FReepers don’t care about the honesty and integrity of all of the candidates, including Trump. That’s far more important to me than anything else.
I know all about contract manufacturing. It’s legitimate, as is private labeling. That wasn’t my point. His previous ventures in water, steaks and his magazine no longer exist. Those were commercial products available to the public that for whatever reason he shuttered years back. Those products on stage last night were not the same steaks, water or magazine because none of them still exist as commercial products. By pretending they were, he created a false impression.
And yes I hate to uncover this because I’d love to watch him beat Hillary, but he won’t if he’s found to be a petty liar. I know Trump uses hyperbole, but that’s different from lying.
Companies reorganize, retarget and rebrand themselves all the time. So what
His steaks sell better in his restaurants, this is not a big deal
Just like his water, Trump Ice, he did that with the apprentice and he did have it on store shelves in New York and New Jersey, but when the bottle water craze ended he still had it in his resorts, clubs and casinos.
Just another nothing burger
I am going to have a big BBQ here with all of these nothing burgers, maybe I will throw some Trump Steaks on the barbie as well. And we can wash it all down with Trump Ice and Trump wine haha
Those are wholly different products, not rebranded products. If that doesn’t matter to you, that’s fine. At least you know he conned you. It does matter to me.
Holy moly. (Can I say that?)
<><><
I would give it a try and see how it goes.
I got your back.
Conned me how? I didn’t lose any money on any of this.
Mitt Romney is the liar here
Unless you are a GOPe/Romeny guy
He’s conned you into believing those are rebranded products.
And I didn’t vote for that giant liar Romney either. When analyzing any candidate, integrity is the number one criteria for me.
He has conned nobody, you don’t understand business or marketing
Trump clearly does
Private labels are just that, private labels
Trump puts his name on everything he deals with, since when was this a “con”?
Do you think any grocery store in the US makes their own products? none do, even store brand is made by someone else
CVS, a large drug store chain, has CVS branded batteries, CVS does not own a factory making batteries, but Rayovac or Ever-ready do and they private label for CVS
This is nothing new
Trump owns what was the John Kluge Winery in Virginia.
You don’t know me at all. Of course it’s not new. I do private labeling of clothing myself and my wife has been in the contract manufacturing of electronics business for fifteen years. I know quite a lot about both. That’s not the issue. The issue is Trump brought out new products that never had a thing to do with Trump Steaks, Trump Ice (his water) or Trump Magazine and pretended those prior failed product ventures didn’t fail long ago. That’s the con. This isn’t even hard to understand unless you simply choose to ignore the facts. What is sad is he didn’t have to do any of it.
Actually I believe it's his son, Eric. And if Reply 38 is true then it wasn't obtained through the most ethical of means.
“His steaks sell better in his restaurants, this is not a big deal.”
Of course they sell better at his restaurants. It’s the only place you can buy them.
“And we can wash it all down with Trump Ice...”
You can’t buy trump ice, so washing it down with that would be difficult at best.
Again, it is odd that he pointed out ventures (with the exception of the wine business) that no longer exist to the public and calls them successful. He could have pointed at many numbers of other ventures that he is currently successful in.
I’m surprised he didn’t bring up trump airlines while he was at it.
He did mention Trump airlines, he said he sold that venture off and made money on the deal
They are private labels
He uses these products in his properties
Maybe they were not as successful out on the shelf, it is a cut throat market
Why put bottle of Poland Spring out for your guests when you can get “Trump Ice” for about the same costs plus you advertise your brand more. It is about marketing. They small ventures are not the corner stone of his business. Trump Ice was not going to be a billion dollar a year business, neither was Trump Steaks or Trump Vodka.
Maybe the Trump magazine wasn’t a top seller at the news stand, so instead of being a monthly publication, it was cut down to a quarterly and features Trump properties and events. It can only be found on tables or in guest accommodations around Trump Properties. Why not? Stay on brand. He is a master at that
He did it for the media buzz
He is a media master, marketing genius
He didn’t have to do it, but he knew it would cause everyone to talk about it.
Who knows, he might be teaming up with a co-packer and get the Trump steaks back on the shelves.
Trump Ice is still around, some what, it used to be sold in grocery stores in New York and New Jersey, but shelf space in the retail market is cut throat. It was widely available at his Casinos but I haven’t been to one in while so I don’t know if they still have it, plus his casinos are owned by the banks who took them back.
Trump’s move here was brilliant.
Watch the video explanation at this link:
http://dc.curbed.com/2011/7/1/10458346/trump-plays-hard-ball-with-bank-of-america-over-kluge-estate
Oh, and he didn’t “screw” the bank out of anything. He didn’t have a mortgage with them, he just didn’t voluntarily help them artificially prop up the value of the house they were trying to sell.
Hey, I’m still appreciative of when he had the Trump Shuttle back in the 80s and gave me a nicer ride than otherwise was and had been available on that cattle car route.
“They are private labels
He uses these products in his properties”
I agree with your statements. Although, I could claim the same. I could say that I am very successful. I only serve Snark Steaks on my property. (Now, the steaks come from Kroger, but they are mine.)
Again, with all his success in so many different ways, I was surprised he pulled a bunch of product that did not make it in business outside of his properties. And use those products to show how successful.
