This is not necessarily meant to be the debate thread but it can be if FR wants it to be. I couldn't find a live thread so I posted this FYI.

Personally, I am not sure I want to endure another one of these things. I mean to me it's a political theater of the absurd. It certainly is not a bona fide "debate" - it is a Q&A session with the MSM moderators in the spotlight, holding all the cards, and calling all the shots. It's again the Right letting the Left run the Right's show. It is a wonder to me that the GOP candidates come to these things so meekly like sheep to the slaughter.

It is also a wonder to me that people like me keep watching these things. Feels a little like Lucy continually tempting Charlie Brown to kick the ball. It's the same result every time: just like Lucy pulling the ball away at the last second, this event provides nothing very substantive or new, no one has time to go into any depth on anything, and the network ends by congratulating themselves on what a wonderful job they did.

So why do they go to these things and why do we watch them? Well my excuse has been because of Trump - he injects a little liveliness into what would otherwise be deadly boring IMO. But I'm not sure even Trump can get me to keep watching these things.

I guess there's at least a couple of relatively new breaking stories that may be part of tonight's festivities, dunno.

One is Cruz's motion to dismiss an effort to get his NBC eligibility status resolved in federal court. Cruz's refusal to get this thing settled in federal court one way or the other does not look like good faith on his part to clear away obstacles that could DQ him later if he were nominated potentially handing the election to the socialists. That would be disastrous of course and I expect more from Cruz than this - seems like he's gambling with America's future.

Secondly is the late-breaking rumors about Rubio and a possible scandal or affair. Gee haven't had any of those yet this campaign so here we go.

I liked Cruz closing statement, Trumps was ok as well.

Man, if only we’d have a president who’d do what Cruz said he would do first day in office!

I don’t care who it is, Just Do It!

The dive into the gutter eliminated any chance Cruz & Rubio might have had to derail the Trump Train tonight, IMO.

Cruz will always have Iowa & maybe Texas. Rubio wins zip.

The performance of Cruz and Rubio was actually sort of comical tonight. They both just came out with the same old tired charges and statements from Trump’s past that have been thrown around here at FR for months. And thrown around many other places.

Neither Cruz nor Rubio gained any support tonight.

I wanted to mention that the stage and background was much better for this debate than the last and fair to the candidates and to Trump. That last debate, oh wow, they had red on red on red to try to make Trump look orange and orange and orange.

Anyway, much better done by CNN.

Trump, Rubio, and Cruz went at each others throats. This made Carson and Kasich look more reasonable in comparison.

Chris Matthews on MSNBC saying that the choreographed shrieks and audience swoons completely disarmed Rubio’s attacks. It bothered him (Chris). How can one argue? It was so fake that everyone can detect the setup. They played the sound bytes and it is ridiculous.

I think his point is that someone clearly overplayed it ad it exposed unfairness against Trump. I think he has a point.

Another awesome cage match! Trump stood up to the full-court press! Rubio was sweating buckets! Cruz looked a bit singed!

We should all move to Ohio! Gov. Kasich has fixed everything and made his state a utopia!

And Dr. Carson healed us all, and ... (read my tagline)

Just watched Cruz on CNN say Trump committed ‘Tax Fraud”, a felony. Cruz is one sleazy, lying, creep.

Donny Boy got battered badly. A terrible night for him. Cruz and Rubio played soccer with him, kicking him back and forth between them.

About bloody well time.

Sick of debates. SO I'll just have fun with this:
I think the OPENING statements can be summarized as such below, and as such, reveal who will win:

Carson: Lets just be friends

Kasich: I'm just a regular guy

Rubio: Who are conservatives?

Cruz: Texas is great and democrats won't vote for me but like me.

Trump: Make America great again!

This sounds like Cruz would back Rubio:

Oliver Darcy Verified account
@oliverdarcy

Cruz: Marco and I would both make a much better candidate and a much better president than Donald.
