I get awful coughing fits. They are from post nasal drip. Narrow nose, it all goes down my throat, and when the snot hits the spot, I cough uncontrollably. Maybe just that. Every once in a while (maybe twice a year) I'll get something that feels like saliva or something blocking my windpipe. It makes it so I can barely breathe... the first couple of times it was pretty scary. Once it happened when I was about to have blood drawn for a routine blood test and everyone rushed over and was ready to give me the Heimlich... I just waved them off knowing that in a minute or so I could breathe again and be able to talk.
It still scares the heck out of my wife when it happens... but I've learned to relax myself and I can get just enough air in to keep me going for a few minutes and it slowly passes.

I’m thinking with all the swallowing and regurgitating of her cud, see has worn out her ge valve. Now the simple swallowing of her spital, isnt so simple, some is leaking into her lungs causing her hacking.

I too like this theory better, and probably a lot more believable! I once took lisinopril and had to change because I could not sleep at night due to coughing!
