Going to be interesting for sure. I’m not so sure there is much crossover between Trump and Cruz though. For me, I am not excited in the least in voting ideology expressed as “100% conservative” or otherwise. I’m not reading the labels. I am not very excited about voting against anyone either, though it might become a factor. Pretty much it is the rebellion for now. I don’t see that Cruz rallying us types. Wrong kind of “100%” rating this go around, and he doesn’t channel Trump very well for me. I “got” no connection there, plus part of the rebellion is being called stupid. They don’t get it, at least yet.
“Trump will dump conservatives whenever public pressure and the media make it in his interest to do so.”
Yeah Trump caves to media pressure all the time. Come on, give us a break. Trump’s been a bulldozer with the media - the others are like mosquitos in comparison. Assertions like that should have at least a shred of truth in them.
Conservatism died a long time ago - no one cares. That battle is lost. At this moment in time conservatism is not the battle to pick, there are far more pressing problems to attack first, that if not won the loss will absolutely doom any chance of bringing conservatism back to life.
Have you seen this?
Conservative vs Liberal, a history of terms and discussion.

My fear is that some will again stay home and we’ll end up with Socialist. Or a brokered convention and we’ll get to vote for Bush.
“Anyone in the cult notice that Trump said tonight that he will be changing and that he can change into anything he wants to??
Maybe like the leftist he always was for 68 of his 69 years??”
This is so stupid. Are you incapable of analyzing a statement in context?? Are you that blindered and unfair with all the candidates?
- Unwavering support for the second amendment is a leftist position?
- Protecting our economic and geographical borders is a leftist position?
- Championing a solution for corporate inversion (all on his own) is a leftist position?
- Advocating paying down the debt and running the country like low debt, balanced budget business is a leftist position??
- Advocating a strong efficient military is leftist position??
- Advocating local control of schools is a leftist position?
- Raising 6 million for vets in one hour is a leftist position?
- Etc.
You need to have some coherency and rationality in your statements for anyone to take you seriously. Maybe your goal is to not be taken seriously - that is what you are achieving with statements like the one you posted.
Yeah everyone can see Trump runs his business like a socialist.
Wow.
“Cruz is a peacemaker. Trump is a warlord.”
Wow.
Cruz who has practically no friends in DC because of his own scorched earth actions is the peacemaker. Trump who is building a coalition of we-the-people like we have never seen before is the warlord.
Ok, but on what planet, in what parallel universe, is that true?
Can’t have a conversation with incoherency. ;)
Listen to the man’s own words...
He supports universal healthcare...
He views the GOVERNMENT as the answer...
He’s not as far as you think from a socialist.
“Listen to the man’s own words...
He supports universal healthcare...
He views the GOVERNMENT as the answer...
He’s not as far as you think from a socialist.”
If you would actually take your own advice and “listen to the man’s words” in context you wouldn’t have posted the lie you did.
To make the case “He supports universal healthcare” what Trump actually said has to be deliberately taken out of context. Deliberately taking things out of context and cherry picking is a very dishonest thing to do.
Trump said he supports the government taking care of those “who are dying in the streets”, those who cannot pay for it themselves. Those are teh ones the rest of us are paying for anyway. Everyone else would have competitive HC available. That is not “universal healthcare” like you assert - making what you assert a lie.
I can’t believe the number of people here on FR who repeat such perfidy without doing any fact checking at all.
How would you have any idea what Trump would do? He doesn’t strike me as honest, particularly. And he’s got no record.
You don’t get it, Trump is just a symbol of what the people want. Whether he accomplishes anything or not really doesn’t matter, it is irrelevant. He is showing the way forward and even if he fails, he has turned the ship in the right direction. He is the human Ft Sumter and has the full and undivided attention of the Establishment.
>>How would you have any idea what Trump would do? He doesnât strike me as honest, particularly. And heâs got no record.
I read The Art of the Deal in 1987. He wrote The America We Deserve in 2000. Trump has been a major player in American business and culture ever since. He isn’t perfect, but he does know how to win. He isn’t an endless talker or just a prolific writer and criticizer. We don’t need another politician with a “record”...especially of just “trying”. Their records are worthless anyway when they move from legislating to being an executive. Those are two very different roles.
I don’t know what Trump will do, but I know what Cruz CAN’T do, which is lead people who don’t agree with him or have competing interests.
So many errors, I will just take one.
Unwavering support for the second amendment.
Really? Lol, since when?
The Donald supported outlawing so called assault weapons.
That’s right, outlawing weapons in violation of the 2A.
No difference between him and Diane Feinstein.
He changed his position when he decided to run for Republican nomination.
I wonder if he changed his position because he would get zero support in primary favoring outlawing weapons or he suddenly believes in the 2A?
I wonder........
“No difference between him and Diane Feinstein.”
What an ignorant comment. Do a little research. It’s quite easy;

Trump hasn’t arrived until Ms fey announces that she can see the wall from her porch.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/donald-trump-60-minutes-scott-pelley/
Donald Trump: Obamacareâs going to be repealed and replaced. Obamacare is a disaster if you look at whatâs going on with premiums where theyâre up 40, 50, 55 percent.
Scott Pelley: How do you fix it?
Donald Trump: Thereâs many different ways, by the way. Everybodyâs got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, âNo, no, the lower 25 percent that canât afford private. Butââ
Scott Pelley: Universal health care.
Donald Trump: I am going to take care of everybody. I donât care if it costs me votes or not. Everybodyâs going to be taken care of much better than theyâre taken care of now.
Scott Pelley: The uninsured person is going to be taken care of. How? How?
Donald Trump: Theyâre going to be taken care of. I would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people. And, you know what, if this is probablyâ
Scott Pelley: Make a deal? Who pays for it?
Donald Trump: âthe governmentâs gonna pay for it. But weâre going to save so much money on the other side. But for the most itâs going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.
I guess I’m lying through my teeth eh? Distorting the record?
There it is. In all its glory.
Just this past September.
He also has a lot of fun with taxes too...
Scott Pelley: Revolution is easy, governing is hard and what Iâd like to get to is how you intend to govern the country if you are elected president. Whatâs your tax plan?
Donald Trump: Itâs a substantial reduction for the middle-income people. Because our middle class, Scott, is being absolutely decimated. It will be a corporate also reduction, I think itâll be a great incentive for corporations.
Scott Pelley: Who are you going to raise taxes on?
Donald Trump: If you look at actually raise, some very wealthy are going to be raised. Some people that are getting unfair deductions are going to be raised. But overall itâs going to be a tremendous incentive to grow the economy and weâre going to take in the same or more money. And I think weâre going to have something thatâs going to be spectacular.
Scott Pelley: But Republicans donât raise taxes.
Donald Trump: Well, weâre not raising taxes.
Scott Pelley: What kind of Republican are you?
Donald Trump: I mean the only, well, Iâm a pretty good Republican. But, I will tell you this, I do have some differences. I donât want to have certain people on Wall Street getting away with paying no tax.
What a joke of a candidate. What a joke that YOU flat out IGNORE what is right in front of you.
Open your eyes. REALIZE who he really is...
Being “liked” has nothing to do with being a peacemaker.
When people have to wear blinders, cherry pick and commit the fallacy of too few alternatives to make a point the point is fatally flawed.
Understand context; “the lower 25 percent that can’t afford private” are the ones he says we will take care of. If you think about it the rest of use are paying for them right now anyway.
And you have to gall to tell me to open my eyes.
