My personal preference is actually the same as yours regarding immigration policy.

I don’t find the same basis for confidence in Trump’s word that you find, but we are each free to draw our own conclusions.

Thanks for your time and all the best to you.

You are certainly a gentleman. I thank you very much for the civil discussion. I certainly have my own reservations about Mr. Trump, but I feel like he is more likely to give his best effort to deliver on his promises than the politicians in the contest.

Presuming that Hillary is not indicted and convicted before Obama leaves office... which candidate do you think would be most likely to go after her? Even more challenging... suppose that evidence surfaces that Obama was guilty of serious crimes, corruption, or malfeasance while in office... do you think that any of the career politicians would go after him? I seriously doubt it... they would be afraid of the consequences, but I think that Mr. Trump just might do it anyway. Skipping the last debate... speaking his mind regardless of the consequences, even admitting that his past positions were wrong all indicate to me that he is a risk taker who will try to do what is right. That is the primary reason that he is currently my favorite candidate. But believe me I will support whoever the Republican nominee is. Another Democrat in the Whitehouse would almost certainly mean that our county’s downward spiral would be irreversible.

Thanks for your generous characterization of me. But I’ll confess it wouldn’t take much investigation to find a contrary opinion.

My sense is that Trump would be more likely to consider Obama’s or Hillary’s crimes as part of a deal, and hence less likely to prosecute if he could use that to get something else that he wanted. I see him as more of a pragmatist, figuring out what he wants and then running a strategy, taking a risk, to get it. If he didn’t need to pressure Obama or Hillary to get something, I don’t think he would do it. Of course sometimes deals have to be made, but I can’t get behind deal-making as a core approach to operating the Federal Government.

I have little confidence that any of the establishment types would go after them, even if there were a strong case. Christie and Rubio talk tough about things like that but I’m not buying it. Maybe Christie would since he used to be a prosecutor, I don’t know.

The reason I’m a Cruz man is because I see him as the most principled of the bunch. He’s certainly not perfect, and I can see why some people think of him as an opportunist; sometimes he comes across as insincere. But he’s fighting an uphill battle on a lot of fronts, almost going it alone. I don’t think you do that if you crave popularity. He is serious about the Constitution, and I believe he would be most likely to prosecute high-level establishment figures, including Hillary or Obama, if the case existed to do so. And I do think that case is going to come out regarding Hillary’s e-mails.

I see Rand Paul as principled and serious about the Constitution as well. Maybe he would go after them but it’s hard for me to picture that, and he’s so far out of the running that possibility is not relevant.

You know, these guys need to start adding this to their stump speeches - “I will prosecute Hillary to the full limit of the law and perp walk HER to Gitmo!”

Thanks again fireman15 for your kindness. Take care.

You make excellent points. You are most likely right about Cruz being the one most likely to prosecute Hillary or even Obama. Cruz does probably care the least about being popular and that would be an asset when making a decision about a situation like that.

I have appreciated your posts greatly. With the excitement of the contest coming to a head it seems like many discussions here have gone poorly in the last couple of weeks.

They haven’t. It’s just been taken over. This used to be a conservative site but recently I am wondering if there is any other alternative to this childish place.

Pretty much this. Sad that this has happened.
