The Republican Party is owned by its donors. Can't understand Republican behavior and votes in Washington? Understand their donors and you'll understand their actions (or inaction.)

They are owned by lobbyists and donors.

As Trump says in his stump speech: the newly-elected Republican gets to Washington, he and his wife walk around the gold plated halls of Congress, and they say, "We've ARRIVED." And then they will do ANYTHING to stay.

Today’s National Review is not the same NR from the 70’s and 80’s.

To compare Trump to Hitler is over the top — but there does seem to be a common affinity for strong man systems. Trump said he’d rid us of all of 0bama’s executive orders (a promise he stole from Cruz, BTW), but when asked if that meant he opposed government by executive order, said “I’ll do good ones.”

At the very least, he doesn’t get the problem.

To compare Trump to Hitler is over the top -- but there does seem to be a common affinity for strong man systems.

To put that into perspective: Can we classify George Washington as a "strong man?" Or Abraham Lincoln? Or even FDR, or JFK? It seems pretty clear to me that each of these men, in extraordinary times, stepped up to the plate to protect and preserve We the People from potentially devastating enemies. They were the consummate "strong men" of their critical times....

They were men that had to rise up to their times, and take a stand on behalf of the American People, "come hell or highwater." And thus, thanks to them, We the People are still standing today.

However you gauge it, it seems to me that Ronald Reagan was the consummate "strong man" of the last century, preeminently in his face-down of Soviet Russia and its nuclear threat to the U.S.A. and our strategic partners/allies overseas. And We the People were kept safe under his administration, and prospered under it.

The problem we we seem to have, you and me, is that you seem to have some strange conception that Donald Trump is, if not the anti-christ, then at least a certifiably incompetent "buffoon." And that, ergo, Ted Cruz is our "savior."

How do you know what "problems" Donald Trump "gets" or not? When he says, WRT Executive Orders, that he'd only do "the good ones," what do you suppose he might mean? Are you his shrink??? Might that statement somehow encompass repeal of Executive Orders/Actions issued by one Barrack Hussein Obama?

I really don't want to get into dog fight here, so am glad to take this opportunity to "retire" for the evening. I need my rest....

Still, thank you so very much for writing, TBP!

"If that’s not YOUR side, maybe you better re-evaluate what side you’re actually ON."

You are evidently ignorant of the basic principles of Constitutional conservatism. You are a humanist/populist -- possibly with conservative leanings.
