That was my belief in 2003. And in 2007, when I was in Afghanistan.

But while in Afghanistan, I realized it would take 100 years of occupation to pull them into the 18th century, let along the 21st. And America proved it didn’t have the staying power to do that by electing Obama - twice!

We WERE making good progress in 2007, in both Afghanistan and Iraq, but that legacy has been raped by the current occupant in the White House.

I would much rather fight the extremists in Iraq, Afghanistan OR Syria than at the local elementary, but that argument has almost never been made by conservatives. Meanwhile, Obama is bringing in hundreds of thousands of unchecked Muslims, many of whom WILL be proven to be extremists, and the GOP in Congress is content to fully fund it!

I’m in favor of bringing in a few hundreds of proven refugees - committed Christians and folks whose lives are in danger for helping the USA - but that is a few hundred, not a few hundred thousand.

What Trump attacked GWB for doing WAS killing extremists by the hundred thousand in Iraq & Afghanistan instead of here. When GWB did it, Trump said it was terrible. Now...is he proposing doing that in Syria, or northern Iraq?

If not, just how does he “quickly cut the head off ISIS and take their oil”? It is not unreasonable to want to know his idea on using force, ground wars, troops on the ground, air war, etc. He is running for Commander-in-Chief. What IS his approach to using the military?

Just for the record, I supported the initial excursion into Iraq. I hoped were that we would devastate their standing forces, kill as many of the jihadis as possible, then leave, with a warning that there is more where that came from. The nation building was the crap that bogged us down, and it was, and still is, useless endeavor.

in addition, I really do not care if the afghans come to the 18th 19th 20th or 21st century. They just need to know that they eff with the US, they get a couple centuries backward in the blink of an eye.

I don't know who is going to do that this century, but so far it appears trump is closest to it.

Will he follow through? Don't know, we will see.

It is not so much what he thinks, it is more what he can convince the congress and the citizenry to go along with.

We don't get a handle on the trojan horse, nothing else matters.

Well... one way is that you use the international community to stop the illegal transfer and sales of oil which Turkey is currently doing.

As far as the wall and getting Mexico to pay for it, here’s one idea.

We currently send tons of money to Mexico (through various government programs and bills). Trump can stop those payments until the wall is finished.

I would also like to point out that we don’t need to build a physical wall from one end of the border to the other. WHAT we need to do is deal with those areas that have no kind of protection. Having more (or any) border patrol guards, erecting fences, setting up video surveillance. There are many ways to ‘skin a cat’.

I agree on a wall. There are a lot of areas where it would be tough to build, but those are the areas that don’t get a lot of traffic BECAUSE they are tough spots. A wall covering 25% of the border might well be enough to make a huge impact.

I don’t know if it would be legal, but you could probably get Mexico to pay in exchange for allowing their truck drivers to continue crossing the border.

Or tell them, if you do NOT pay, we’ll find ways to tax businesses that partially relocate to Mexico - enough so they won’t WANT to, and your economy will suck even more.
