Irrelevant. There were several amendments. Cruz thought others were better.

Pollack already trying to rewrite, rewrite history. He’s moved from: “Cruz never supported legalization!” to “Yes he supported legalization. It was Rush Limbaugh’s idea.”

Cruz is still denying he ever supported legalization though. We’ll see if he changes his tune soon.

I believe he has since repented of that sin.

Cruz has always suited higher legal immigration limits than Sessions would like.

But to the point of your disengenous little post, Sessions and Cruz worked together with Lee on most of the amendments offered in committee.

For anyone who wants the unbiased information:

Oh and here’s an interesting tidbit: http://www.lee.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/blog?ID=c987c046-1f08-48be-aaba-807881f38b96

Seems so, but undermines the claims of supporters that Cruz was offering amendments to "poison" the Gang of Eight bill. Giving Democrats 500 percent expansion and opposing Sessions-- as a matter of principle!-- would clearly have strengthened the bill for Democrats to vote for.

Note also that Cruz doesn't reject Session's amendment under some strategic reasoning, but as something he honestly feels should not be done.

Amnesty and H1B are two key problems with Cruz. Sad he won’t come clean on this. Proving to be a typical politician. Can’t believe I originally supported him and wasted hundreds of dollars on his campaign.

Cruz’s problem is that he tries to be too nuanced and frankly since most of the United States voting public has an 8th Grade vocabulary and understanding of reasoning, it goes over just about everyone’s head and Cruz ends up confusing even more people by trying to explain what he just said.

He needs to take a lesson from Trump. Just say what you mean in a way that even an idiot can understand it. Don’t apologize and never never admit you were wrong.

Neither link troubles me, and this one actually favors me. It makes it clear that the focus at that time-- which admittedly was the mainstream view at that time-- that legalization was OK as long as it followed, but did not precede, border enforcement. The link even notes a Cruz amendment that would have doubled green cards in this country, calling it a "step in the right direction" for immigration reform.

People don't realize-- but I think Cruz does-- that we've moved much further to the right in our opposition to illegal immigration than we were, apparently, at that time.

Cruz knows this, but apparently doesn't want to pursue the argument that he's changed position since then (as did the country), which is why he is lying about never supporting legalization and trying to obfuscate his support for Club for Growth/Chamber of Commerce amendments which would have expanded H1B and greencards.

Cruz's opposition to this Session's amendment was interesting because it shows that Cruz wasn't exactly, in principle, opposed to expanded legal immigration, and also further undermines his implication that the whole bill was bad and that he would have voted against it even had his amendments passed.

desperate attacks from Cruz haters.

Lets not forget Trump advocated letting the good illegal aliens stay in the US.

And again you conflate legal immigration with illegal immigration. Two very different things. Doubling green cards, had it come after border security and deportations (self or otherwise) would not have been a bad thing.

Lets not forget Trump advocated letting the good illegal aliens stay in the US.

But then, you KNOW Trump's plan to deport and then allow certain aliens to return based on a merit system because he's told you. You know Cruz supported legalization despite Cruz, who currently is denying he ever supported it, and is representing himself as being in lockstep with Sessions.

But Cruz was speaking of expanded legal immigration as a principle to hold on to.

No, not at all. I don't think you understand my post nor what your own link reveals.

Cruz has changed his position on H1B visas and is now cosponsoring a bill with Sessions to reform them. Cruz has never denied that he used to support H1B visas. It is also not news that Cruz and Sessions have a difference of opinion about whether legal immigration should be restricted. This amendment had nothing to do with amnesty which Cruz has never supported.
