Forgive my ignorance but is the term ‘gope’ a derogatory term for RINOs?
I’m one of those who can’t see anything else but Vitter’s huge lapse in morality. He also acted as Democrats do and obligated his wife to stand next to him while he made the admission.
What is your opinion of Bill Clinton?
GOPe as a noun. I don’t like RINO (Republicans in name only) because it is ambiguous and actully applies more to conservatives more accurately than to McConnell & Company. The DNC and the Establishment Republicans have determined the path and actions of the GOP with one hiatus that was Reagan, therefore they ARE the Republican Party and they ARE the Republicans. Conservatives are not truly Republicans. They are for small government. The Republican Party is a big government party that considers the Constitution an inconvenience just as do the Democrats. Conservatives try to operate within that party but do not really belong. Conservatives should have been a Conservative Party from Reagan’s accession forward and should have then abjured the GOPe.
Remember when George W. Bush was entertaining some sort of amnesty for illegals back around 2007? If not, search back through FR and find the threads. You'll find that Vitter led the charge to shut that down.
The man certainly has his flaws, but he has also pulled more than his own weight on Capitol Hill. On questions of morality, I don't feel qualified to throw stones.
Thanks for sharing that bit about Vitter’s leading the charge to shut Bush’s shenanigans down. I’m glad to hear it.
“What is your opinion of Bill Clinton?”
Very low. I know that it sounds like a double standard with Vitter but now that we’re here, do we really want a useless Dem as Louisiana’s governor?
Dardenne went full Democrat. You never go full Democrat.
“The man certainly has his flaws, but he has also pulled more than his own weight on Capitol Hill.”
This scandal is very old and, imo, shouldn’t prohibit David Vitter from being elected governor. I strongly disapprove of what he did, but I don’t see how Republicans should go and vote for some lame Democrat. Vitter’s a solid conservative (not a RINO) and has even been endorsed by none other than Ted Cruz who ought to know who the solid Senate conservatives are.
