Good one.
Check this out. Short and sweet.
http://spectator.org/articles/64421/charles-koch%E2%80%99s-human-flourishing-project
“.....Whats interesting about Charles Kochs story is that he didnt begin as a flint-eyed Randist, concerned only with his selfish desires. Just the opposite. His mentor was Adam Smith, not the Adam Smith of The Wealth of Nations but the younger Smith who wrote The Theory of Moral Sentiments, and who said that to feel much for others, and little for ourselves, that to restrain our selfish, and to indulge our benevolent affections, constitutes the perfection of human nature.
What the young Koch sought to understand was how to promote societal well-being. And what he learned was that socialist methods werent the answer. Instead, he found better teachers in thinkers such as Friedrich Hayek and Tom Sowell. The ultimate goal wasnt to produce the biggest, wealthiest Koch Industries, but to discover the well-springs of a happy society. Koch pursued socialist ends through capitalist means.
What this meant was a system of government and of laws that permits people to flourisha system that clearly defines and protects property rights, that enforces bargains, and that allows people to speak freely. Not surprisingly, this has put him at odds with the progressive Left, from Obama on down to the meanest little guttersnipe on Salon, Kos, or Media Matters. In particular, its been Kochs efforts to spread his message about how governments can promote human flourishing that have enraged the Left, with its programs for campaign finance reform. What reforming our politics means, for that lot, is removing the taint of conservative ideas in politics, in a country in which every other institutionthe media, the universities, public schoolstilts Left. Scratch a liberal, get a fascist. And if the Supreme Court defends First Amendment rights of free speech, why the solution is to change the Courts make-up, as Hillary Clinton promises to do. After all, with her its personal. The Citizens United case was all about Hillary: The Movie......”
Trump has managed to marry more conservative ideas to explicit popular support than has any other candidate in this season’s race, even Cruz.
Conservative ideas that (relatively speaking) sit, demurely, like a spinster in a corner aren’t going to help America go anywhere.
If Trump changed from this, Trump would be worth dumping.
The dreamers just want to work hard and get a better life
I think the EPA has done a good job
We need to work together
Good grief!
Walker turned out to be a TURD!
I gave you a lot of slack, you seemed to be a good freeper,
A bit fixated on losers like Walker and Perry, but OK otherwise.
Now. however, I ask that you simply leave FR in peace and go elsewhere!
Leave US in peace!
Take your dysfunction to some democrat website where you will be hailed as a brilliant poster.
BTW: It was the owner of this forum who posted :Go Trump, GO!
I support Trump And Cruz.
Who is it that you support??????????????????????????????
And why??????????????????????????????????????????
I.e. he rediscovered the idea of blessings.
if they consider themselves a thinking voter instead of a mindless, drooling sports fanThat describes freerepublic Cruz supporters to a tee.
The hypocrisy is amazing
I read the article... I am still shocked that Ted Cruz is the most Constitutional candidate we have ever had.. and he has little support. trump has repeatedly come out as a leftist, capital crony master and he has oodles of FR support. Are they... Deaf? Illiterate? Are they Trump trolls? How did FR folks become leftists? Trump has some good sound bites, but we have yet to pay the penalty for our current sound bite master.
They look and sound like the crazed obamatrons from years ago.
I have really tried to understand trump, but I can’t. On issues, he just struggles to lay out details and anything more than headline material.
Just on his business leadership... He brags about the crony rules he can twist in his favor... And he clearly has a price.
I sincerely hope these trolls disappear so we can get back to FR of old.
Trump is not a “lightweight uniter.”
Be against the 2nd amendment and Israel.
With Trump going to fellows like Jeff Sessions for advice that has led to things like his recent 2nd amendment manifesto, this sounds like a "struggle" to shade the facts.
Trump listens to smart advice. That is a biblical thang, believe it or not.
I’m still ambivalent about Trump. I support his many stances on immigration, taxation and patriotism. But I’m still suspicious of Trumps ‘friendship’ with Bill Clinton. I still don’t know if he’s in this to win or to deflect for Hillary. I just don’t know, but will take Trump at his word for now.
To lose even my modicum levels of support as they now exist, the easiest answer is if he began to show signs of Alzheimers, or showed himself not to be up to the managerial demands of the job.
If Trump had a sudden dramatic weight gain.
If Trump started behaving like Rob Ford or Marion Berry, all of the time: extreme goofball behavior plus getting busting on cocaine or heroin charges.
If Trump began acting snippy, desperate, or angry ALL of the time, like Rand Paul, or Kasich, or Jindal, or Perry before them all. If 90% of what he says is a slam on a fellow conservative, all the while leaving Hillary and Obama untouched of with Kid Gloves, I would lose faith in him.
If Trump had a Love Seat Moment palling around with people like Nancy Pelosi.
If Trump supported Common Core education theory.
If Trump supported Incest, when ‘consensual’.
If Trump changed on illegal immigration and the expectation that these people should assimulate into our culture.
If Trump supported and subordinated himself to Black Lives Matters taking over his stage, embedding his campaign.
If Trump suggested all Christian Churches should remove the crosses and stained glass, so to make ‘other belief systems’ feel less threatened.
If Trump began apologizing for every significant thing he has uttered as an adult, or quickly walking back any bold statements.
If Trump began playing that Biden Game of will I or won’t I stay/be in the presidential race? Maybe I’ll quit and maybe I won’t quit. I will know by XX date. With XX date being repeatedly extended another few weeks.
We must have read different articles - he acknowledges it (true enough with a serving of snark - but hardly rhetoric that would dent FR Trump fans' ears) but only because he's seriously interested to know from you what would "drive" you to someone else.
Typical single-issue voter mindset.
The attitude that has kept the RAT Party out of the dustbin of history and on track to morph into the Socialist/Communist a Party.
I expected better from you.
Trump would only have to apologize to the media Tgey are the enemy of America. Within. Powerful and destructive.
Sadly, read in full. So relax, your hope is realized.
The whole point of Trump is it has nothing to do with any single statement he makes. He is not a trained seal, like so many politicians, repeating the same canned speech or same tired “talking points” every time he steps to a mic. So many of politicians are nothing more than voice machines repeating what they are told and reading words some one else has written for so long it is numbing. The fact Trump says stupid stuff or contradictory to previous statements is part of the appeal. He is making it up as he goes, being himself in all his unpolished glory.
Honestly, when Trump’s support dries up is when he sounds as coached and polished as the rest of the field.....
(And, struggles to reach the truth generally are well rewarded. If something were bothersome about Cruz, not to speak ill of what he does believe, but about his larger picture, it would be that he’s campaigning basically on having arrived. Almost a plaster saint. So “good” that he never needs to look outside of himself to adjust an approach. For someone who has never been an executive, that sounds like a shaky attitude to take.)
"That describes freerepublic Cruz supporters to a tee. Oh, and your support for Scott Walker."
I guess all those links to facts about Walker's positions were for naught.
Trump has observed Cruz to find out what are conservative issues and copied them to try and win the primaries. Then he will go back across the aisle where he really belongs, as a lefty, statist business man.
Well the implication should be obvious. If these Establishmentarians could miraculously stop being nebbishes.
Aw, your condescending concern for the Trump supporters is rather touching, but unnecessary. I’m sure most of us have already asked ourselves this very question, without your help or suggestion. We’ve been having an honest discussion about Trump for the past 3 months. If you haven’t been listening, that’s your fault. You continue to play the objective outside observer, but your refusal to be intellectually honest when discussing Trump belies your true agenda. When you feel like being honest, let me know, and we’ll talk. Until then, you’re a waste of time.
