I’d like a smartphone with a flip phone form factor.

It’s the modern realization of the star trek communicator.
Seriously - it’s a cell phone that is hinged in the middle and flips open. If you watch NCIS, they seem to feature them regularly - particularly for Gibbs.

This is the stupidest crap I have heard since zero made all of his open government promises. I want someone who will hire smart people and make wise decisions in our country’s best interest. I don’t need mass voting American idol style to help her make decisions.

I refuse to have a damn smart phone. Yeah, I can see where it could potentially be useful such as taking a picture of a check being deposited to avoid a trip to the ATM or a bank branch.
You can have the best of both worlds. I have an iPod Touch that can do the bank deposit thing through WIFI, but without the tracking or expense of a smartphone. I also have a prepaid flip phone (old enough that it cannot receive messages from the government) that works fine for making and receiving calls. I carry it only when I think I might need/want a phone on my person (10% of the time).

Where I work I can’t have a cell phone with a camera. About the only one I could find is a tracfone flip phone. I can’t text but seldom use it anyways. I can go weeks without recharging it though.

Not a Carly fan but I don’t get the negative reaction. She is only talking about a plan (gimmick?) for keeping in touch with the voters if she becomes President.
The “throw out your flip phones” is an attempt at a humorous way to explain this plan. She is not banning or ordering people to get rid of outdated phones.
Her plan might be a good idea or it might be silly, but it is not all that significant either way.
To: McGruff
Such a silly statement. There are 300 million citizens. There's no way this could be effective.
At work, I have 350 contacts on my phone and that's only because I work hard to keep it pared down, so that my day is not sucked away with a barrage of messages.

I have a couple of older friends who have them and they complain all the time that they cant participate in a lot of services that you can access from a more modern phone...Funny. That's exactly why I have one. Plus my LG VX-8300 simply won't die. It's a rock.

The presence of flip phones in movies really dates those movies.
Just saw one on Breaking Bad.

Robert De Niro, who plays the title character, has a flip phone in the current movie “The Intern”.

Beam me up, Scotty, there are no smart phones down here.
To: ifinnegan
I’ll keep my flip phone.
Maybe I don’t want to talk to Carly whenever she feels the need.
She can talk to her potted plants, like Prince Charles.

If you want Internet access to the entire world, buy any of 26,000 (I am not making this up) PCs or laptops advertised on eBay for $200 or less. If you want a phone, you can get a flip phone with unlimited minutes for $60/month from Verizon or other provider. This obsession with Iphones is just stupid.
