Anyone who has worked with people “educated” in urban school districts has known for decades that high school diplomas (and now even college degrees) issued to preferred minorities are meaningless. Employer beware; many can’t do any productive work, but will be the first to threaten lawsuits if you try to get rid of them.
Besides essay-type application questions (at least one) and probationary periods, I’ve found (quite by accident) that hiring someone as a temp, then hiring them when the original employee they were covering failed to return, was the best screen. The temp slot greatly facilitates ending the relationship with no legal hassles...
