You would think that by burning something down would be right up most blacks alley.

This may be cultural. I have a good black friend with whom I work sports car races. We decided for a two-day event, to just roll up in the back of my pickup at the track. Well, it was cold and slightly wet, so I wasn’t surprised when at dinner he turned to me and said: “I’m not an outdoor Negro, I’m a house Negro, we should go find a motel!”
Clarence Thomas and his Wife have a nice RV and enjoy Camping. He isn’t really “Black” though.
Read his auto biography and there are folks out there that had much easier up-bringing than he did yet think he’s an idiot and had it made. Uh, NOT!
Most blacks don’t have enough money to pretend money doesn’t matter on that grand a scale... the level burning man requires....( applies to most whites too)
Same issue for nationall parks. Blacks just don’t visit.

That’s pretty much what the guy, Larry Harvey said in the interview. Camping is something you do when you HAVE to do it, not something you would go out and do for fun.

Wow! That jarred back many good memories for me. I had to look it up, as I was unaware of a Grand Marais Michigan, but on a few occasions in the 70’s I went up into the Boundary Waters and along the Gunflint Trail, but on the opposite side of the lake, in Grand Marais Minnesota.
I think it’s more that campers need to exercise a degree of self reliance, discipline, and intelligence. When camping, you need to be able to start and maintain a camp fire without burning yourself, figure out how to cook your own food over a fire (instead of relying on Mcdonald to feed you) and how to find your way through the woods back to your car without getting lost.
