When someone is so centered on their job and all that goes with it, they tend to have a very limited world view.

I think you're on to something there. Obviously, Dr. Carson is a very smart guy, accomplished in his field and that is not a universally transferable kind of smart. I still gotta give him his props for his National Prayer Breakfast smackdown he laid on The One, though.
