New BBs would have rail guns with precision projectiles, 150-400 nm when scaled up. That would be serious force projection.
Your idea of not having anything, “because WWIII”. Was first voiced in 1946. We’ve fought a hell of a lot of conventional battles sense then. Almost all required Naval support.
Paratroopers die after 3 days without heavy forces to relieve them. You couldn’t possibly put forces in place, let alone keep them supplied, by air alone. And merchants won’t survive without a navy.
That means we win.
Wihtin an hour 550 Minuteman III and 48 Trident's are headed to the dumb bastards that though they could take out a US Capital ship with a nuke.
Who just sent our way their missiles and warheads. No one wins. Checkmate. The next world war isn’t going to be played out on remote islands and foreign soils. In that one we take a beating too.
The point was that they were so small would not trigger a nuclear exchange and yet could kill an Akula with a near miss without significant radioactive waste.

All countries know our nukes work. Every time.
Why would they be so stupid as to escalate to such a point because we shot down 84 of their aircraft trying to take out our Battle Group?
Ships Company ‘86-’88. I’m waiting for “mariner” to give me the Nimitz’s armor details. He said it has none.
What you say makes sense. The LCS diagram sure seemed to have little in the way of crew quarters. It looks to my untrained eye mostly like a very expensive, glorified patrol boat.
It probably has some good uses but for first line fighting or defending it looks woefully inadequate.
This is what comes of politicians being in charge of technical warfare matters.
Yes, but it can do 50 knots.
