The fuel blending rquirements ae the single biggest reason for higher prices. ONE refinery can make ONE bled at a time. That lead to shortages, like we see in the midwest all the time.

In our area, the ONLY refinery that prduces this blend is Amaco in Gary. A problem, fire, maint. shutdown, etc. causes prices to go up.

Get rid of the blending rules, and gas will drop DRAMATICALLY, due to competition.

Still cheaper than water in California.

Even better: Get rid of the EPA and watch EVERYTHING drop in price.

As a fourth generation Californian I have a few
observations regarding your post. First, I
commend you for separating the state leadership
from the people. I understand that to be an
acknowledgment that not ALL of us are lefty
lunatics unlike post #11 which leaves the
asinine impression that we march in liberal
lock step here in California. It is true that
there is an outflow of critical thinking. The
liberals in power restrict water storage
potential while inviting unlimited illegal
immigration.....liberal stupidity. But where
is critical thinking going? That is a national
problem not limited to California.

Not all talent is leaving California. There are
talented and relatively conservative people who
choose to stay because they are not primarily driven
by politics. They enjoy the climate and recreational
diversity opportunities. On a minor note the snail
darter and lettuce production have absolutely nothing
geographically in common but your overall point has
value.

California is like AARP, the League of Women Voters,
and any university. If the liberals get a foothold
they will fight tooth and nail to take complete
control. Then they will do whatever possible to
destroy the opposition.

“You’d think that at least a few retain some sanity.
I guess NOT.”

Yet here you are lurking at FR which is
a CA based site, hosted by a Californian,
and populated by more Californians than
FReepers from any other single state.
But it takes more than a few to turn
the tide as you should know from the
past two presidential elections.
We are not all lefties. Only an idiot
would even think that and I just
know you are not an idiot.

Of course you are NOT all lefties. One problem you may have is the usual media coverage of anything California from an ultra LIBERAL viewpoint. This does give a slanted view of your state.
But, this FReeper is a conservative trying to stay sane in the People’s Democratic Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I, too, have a burden to bear. I’m a resident of the state where is first shots of the American Revolution were fired, yet is full of people who decry the country’s existence.
Good luck to both of us.
