Hmm. I was thinking Katrina was in 2006 or 2007. I was living in Houston, though not in town, at the time Ike hit. I thought it was a 3.
Oh well. My bad.

Of course, ask anyone in the path of one of these storms whether it is “major” or not, and you might get a different answer than the one NOAA would give you. Sandy wasn’t a “major” storm, but it was the worst storm I have ever experienced (I am well inland), and I think most of the people along the Jersey shore would agree.

All of the storm chasers at the Weather Channel are deeply saddened.

That study found that major hurricane droughts only occur every 177 years, and calculated that there is less than a 5 percent chance (0.39%) that the current drought will end this hurricane season, which lasts from June 1 to November 30.OK. Time for serious prepping to begin, cause they're always wrong.
So I'm guessing we're going to get nailed this year.

How many hurricanes hit the US during the Little Ice Age of 500 years ago? That has been studied from sediment at the high water marks. Ironically "The apparent increase in intense hurricane landfalls around 300 years ago occurs during the latter half of the Little Ice Age, a time of lower tropical sea surface temperatures."

They aren’t hurricanes in the Pacific, they are called Typhoons.
